With the development of Internet technology, multimedia technology and its applications,research and application of video conferencing systems receives more and more attention. Existingvideo conferencing systems can be divided into centralized and distributed modes. Centralizedvideo conference requires a high performance central server for the conference control andmanagement, its cost is very high. Due to the characteristics of small resources consumption andeasily deployment, the distributed video conference system needs to be researched.By discussing the key technologies of video conference, this thesis designs a lightweightembedded video conferencing control system based on distributed endpoint mixing conferencearchitecture. In order to realize the control of conference, this thesis introduces the role-base accesscontrol technology into endpoint mixing conference architecture and designs a distributedconference control framework. The framework integrates both conference function and controlfunction in terminals, using the host role to control conference resources. Considering thetransferring of conference control permissions for distributed video conferencing, a host roleswitching method is proposed, avoiding the single point failure problem of centralized control. Formeeting the application requirements, such as the processing resources and memory limitations ofembedded system, reliability, security, this thesis designs several appropriate methods, providingusers with a variety of conference control functions, and simplifying the configuration and using ofembedded video conferencing system.Based on a high performance video codec hardware platform and embedded Linux operatingsystem, this thesis implements a prototype of the lightweight embedded video conferencing controlsystem. Function testing is performed for this embedded video conferencing control system, resultsshow that: the conference control functions of prototype system can meet the applicationrequirements.
