Objective:The study based on Microskills theory of Ivey, Empathy theory of Hoffman and Group Counseling theory of Fan. Designing group training plan aimed to improve the empathy of undergraduate nursing students in Hangzhou Normal University. The purpose is to study the effect of using microskills training to improve the empathy of undergraduate nursing students, explore ways to enhance the empathy of undergraduate nursing students. Then it would provide a feasible program for the education of nursing psychology.Methods:Object of the study is the undergraduate nursing students in third grade in Hangzhou Normal University.24objects were randomly divided into experimental group and control group, and the number of each group is12. Both the two groups have agreed to take part in the study and they have already signed informed consent. The experimental group received a series of group training on empathy with microskills, and the compare groups did not received any intervention. Interpersonal Reactivity Index Scale, Jefferson Scale of Physician Empathy, Helpful Responses Questionnaire are taken as study tools. The data collected were statistically analyzed using SPSS17.0and quantitative analysis can be used to analyze the results. Qualitative analysis can be used to analyze feedback of group forms, video and observers.Results:The result of quantitative analysis is indicated as follows:(1) The empathy level of experimental group is higher than control group, there are significant differences in perspective taking and empathic concern dimensionalities of Interpersonal Reactivity Index, in perspective taking and compassionate care of Jefferson Scale of Physician Empathy, and in all situations of Helpful Responses Questionnaire.(2) The empathy level of experimental group before is higher than after experiment, and there are significant differences in perspective taking and empathic concern dimensionalities of Interpersonal Reactivity Index, in per-spective taking dimensionality of Jefferson Scale of Physician Empathy, and in all situations of Helpful Responses Questionnaire. There are no obvious differences in control group. The result of qualitative analysis is indicated as follows:(1) Members in experimental group are pleased with training program, group participate, group atmosphere, group effect, individual harvest and leader style.(2) The undergraduate nursing students can digest the meaning of cognitive empathy, emotional empathy and expressed empathy. They use microskills to communicate with others by encouraging, restatement, paraphrasing, summarizing, reflection of feeling, and they tend to raise the level of empathy.Conclusion:Microskills training will help to improve the empathy of undergraduate nursing students in Hangzhou Normal University, and it can be taken as a way to improve the empathy of undergraduate nursing students. In this study, the training programs designed has good applicability and feasibility.
