Research And Implementation Of An Network Performance Simulator

Information Network Design and Network Performance Evaluation are critical network research areas, while network simulation is an important method to carry out these research activities. In this paper, we discuss the method of network design and network performance evaluation via network simulation, and present the design and implementation of NDS-1(Network Design Simulator Version 1).1. We introduced the background, present and features of network simulation, and make a comparison between network simulation and traditional network research method. We discuss the general method of applying the network simulation to network design and network performance evaluation. Then we make a survey of popular network simulation tools, especially NS-2. The design and implementation of NS-2 is an important reference to the development of NDS-1, and NS-2 is selected as the core simulator used by NDS-1.2. We introduce the parameters of network performance, and discuss the step and rules of applying the network simulation to network performance parameters. We carried out an experiment of network performance evaluation using network simulation. Beside the design of network simulation model and part of the simulation results, we give out an analysis on the simulation results. By doing this, we verified the method of network performance evaluation via network simulation.3. This paper focuses on the design and implementation of NDS-1 system. Our team completes the system design and modular design of NDS-1.1 am responsible for the design and implementation of visualized program tool, post process tool and database structure, and partial implementation of the network model generator. For the sake of integrality, this paper also introduces other team members' work.4. Finally, we make a test running of the NDS-1 system. We create a simple network model using NDS-1, and carry out a simulation. We introduced the preparation, model creating process and simulation resulting acquiring. By this simple experiment, we draw the conclusion that it is convenient and effective to use NDS-1 in network system design and network performance evaluation.
