The performance analysis and design are important research fields of the information networks. Simulation is a vital tool to quickly and inexpensively explore the behavior of the network. In this dissertation, we focus on the research of network performance evaluation, topology design and the integrated network design and research tools using network simulation technologies. And we present some methods on these fields. Our works mainly include the following aspects:1. It is proposed how to evaluate the performance of information networks by simulation. And we apply this method to the performance evaluation of a real multimedia network. Then optimization proposal is offered.2. The method that the network simulation aid the design of information networks is studied. And we evaluate a several solutions of topology design using this method for achieving the solution of "Guang Zhou Broadband Backbone Network Planning", and offer a proposal. .3. We have analyzed and measured primary network simulation tools, while we concentrate our attention on dissection of NS-2. we refer to problems in NS-2 and the significance of developing INDRE.4. The Integrated Network Design and Research Environment by Simulation, INDRE, is proposed. We present its system design, including the design of architecture, storage structure and modularization structure. And we also study some relative simulation technologies, such as the scalable data collection tool, the object-oriented implement for simulation database. According to the design of INDRE, we develop a network simulation tool. Part of it is completed.
