The development of medicine is not isolatable which is deeply influenced by society.Looking back, every medical system,Chinese,Tibetan,Indian as well as modern medicine has its own background.Taking Chinese medicine for instant, its origination from ancient Chinese philosophy and culture,in which did it develop, has made it a combination of Confucian,Taoist and Buddhist culture. The theories of'Yin-Yang','the five elements', 'correspondence between man and nature',etc. all originated from Confucianism and Taoism. It's quite the same when Buddhism was brought into China.Especially during the Sui and Tang Dynasty,Buddhism infiltrated throughout Chinese medicine, the basic theory, treating skills, prescriptions, mental treatment and medical ethics. The development of culture is consistent.Modern culture should base on that of conventional.Buddism had played a great role in conventional Chinese culture which is made up of philosophy, ethics, psychology, medicine, literature and so on.This thesis aims to make a research on the relationship between Buddhist culture and medicine.By studying the roots of both physical and psychological diseases and combining conventional medicine with modern, this may help to find out the practical significance of Buddhist medicine.
