ObjectiveThe Song Dynasty was an important period for the steady development and perfection of Buddhist medicine. With the development of Han,Wei,Sui,Tang and Five Dynasties,Buddhist medicine has been completely localized and integrated into traditional medicine, and has had a profound impact on it.This paper takes the Buddhist medicine of the Song Dynasty and Song Dynasty as the research object, and systematically sorts out and studies the literature of the Buddhist medicine of the Song Dynasty and Song Dynasty. This paper also analyzes how Buddhist medicine perfectly integrates with traditional medicine under the background of the integration of three religions while retaining its own characteristics. This paper tries to find out the medical theory, treatment experience and health preservation methods of the two Song Dynasty Buddhism. It clarifies the characteristics of Buddhist medicine at that time, especially medical ethics, psychology, charity, etc.,which are of reference significance to the present. It is not only in the guidance of clinical practice but better improves the current medical system as well, for patients to relieve the suffering pain.At present, from the perspective of dynastic history, there are few data about the development of Buddhist medicine in a certain dynasty.Although there are some sources to explore, they are mostly from a certain point of view, rather than a comprehensive overview of a particular period or dynasty. Therefore,as far as my knowledge is concerned, the current literature on Buddhist medicine is not deep enough for us to study the Song Dynasty, and has not formed a systematic and comprehensive understanding. It thus needs to be complemented by more detailed studies. There is no doubt that this research is very necessary.MethodThis paper mainly adopts the research methods of philology, including induction and synthesis, analysis and deduction, contrast and so on.The bibliography of this article includes:Dazheng Xinxiu Triptra,Professor Li Liangsong’s General Catalogue of Buddhist Medical Books,Complete Chinese Buddhist Medicine,Complete Chinese Buddhist Medicine and Chinese Buddhist Medical Culture Series. This paper sorts out the Buddhist medical scriptures in the Song Dynasty,Buddhist scriptures related to medicine, temple medicine, medical monk works, which lay scholars related to Buddhism medicine,Buddhist medicine in poems and articles, etc. This paper comprehensively sorts out all the Buddhist medical literature and materials in the Song Dynasty, and summarizes these materials,so as to draw the conclusion of the development of Buddhist medicine in the Song Dynasty.ResultsFirst and foremost, this paper introduces the historical background of the existence of Buddhist medicine in Song Dynasty and Song Dynasty. The official support to Buddhism in the Song Dynasty, the relaxed cultural and ideological environment, the progress of science and technology, and the development of medical science all laid a good foundation for the development of Buddhist medicine. Many monks came to China at that time,so the translation of Buddhist scriptures was promoted. The unity of the three religions and the unity of the pure Buddhism in Song Dynasty laid a solid foundation for the development of the medical theory of Buddhism in Song Dynasty and Song Dynasty. The pre-Buddhist medicine of this period was mature and had become an important part of traditional medicine.Additionally, this paper studies the Buddhist classics and Chinese medical works translated in the Song Dynasty from the perspectives of Buddhist-Tibetan medicine, monastery medicine and Buddhist-related medicine. It systematically sorts out the literature and development of Song Buddha medicine. It also introduces the "Buddhist medical monasteries and representatives of medical monks" in the Song Dynasty, and expounds the important role it played in the development of Buddhist medicine.Besides,it also mentions lay scholars, worship Buddhist medical establishments, doctors on Buddhist and related to Buddhist medical poetry and prose, and further introduces the related situation of Buddhist medicine in the Song Dynasty.Furthermore, through the collation and study of the Buddhist medical literature in the Song Dynasty and Song Dynasty, this paper discusses the Buddhist medical content at that time from the aspects of medical theory, treatment and health preservation. This kind of classification can completely reflect the existence state of Buddhist medicine at that time and restore the development state of Buddhist medicine as far as possible. It is not difficult to see from the article that Buddhist medicine in the Song Dynasty provided medical services for the common people in the secular life, which made great contributions to maintaining social stability. However, due to its religious nature,it still retains some unique theories, treatments and methods of health preservation. This is not traditional medicine, some of which is worth learning from today. Finally,to sum up,it is not difficult to draw the following five characteristics:the combination of various methods, the use of everything as medicine, the use of food as medicine, the emphasis on psychological factors, and the freedom from rigid and precepts. It has exerted a profound influence on traditional medicine in three aspects:medical ethics, philanthropy and the supplement of official medicine. In addition, through the progress in medical theory, treatment and health preservation,it is not difficult to find that the Buddhist medicine of the two Song Dynasties is in a stable development and perfection period in the history of the development of the Buddhist medicine.ConclusionBased on the Buddhist medical literature in the Song Dynasty, this paper presents the development of Buddhist medicine in the Song Dynasty. It excavates the unique features of the theoretical framework and clinical practice of Buddhist medicine in the Song Dynasty from the perspectives of theory, treatment methods and health preservation. The Buddhist doctors of the Song Dynasty not only made great contributions to the medicine of the Song Dynasty, but also played a key role in the development of traditional Chinese medicine. There is evidence that the Buddhist medicine of the Song Dynasty and Song Dynasty is of great historical significance and value, even influencing the tea culture of later generations. It has also spread overseas and aroused contemporary people’s concern and thinking about Buddhist medicine. It complements the deficiency of "doctor-patient relationship" and other aspects of contemporary medicine, and I am greatly convinced that it can guide clinical practice and better serve patients. |
