BackgroundPostgraduate education in clinical medicine is one of the important ways for a clinical training of senior doctors in our country, since its establishment for 10 years. We trained a large number of experts in China's medical and health undertakings, but the talents can not fully meet the social requirements of high-level application-oriented personnel, and the quality of training yet to be improved. The rational designing of the course of professional degree in clinical medicine is directly relating to the quality and training effect of professional degree in clinical medicine. In order to improve the quality of graduate education of professional degree in clinical medicine,we need to strengthen the curriculum reform for graduate education of professional degree in clinical medicine. However, how to change China's current curriculum of professional degree in clinical medicine depends on the status of the full research and analysis and then get the aims to meet.PurposesWe are committed to do an all-round system study in the current status of curriculum designing about Master professional degree in clinical medicine. We hope trough the study,we can do an objective evaluation of the current situation of curriculum designing of professional degree in clinical medicine, and then supply some references to curriculum reformation.MethodsLiterature review:We checked the CNKI and literature of high education database through the key words of "professional degree in clinical medicine" and "curriculum", also we searched free charge online database for medical journals in the key word "curriculum".We found 63 Chinese literatures and 27 English literatures. And further, we checked the curriculum information of Master professional in clinical medicine of the 19 colleges and universities in domestic, and then analyzed the information. Questionnaire survey:By taking samples at random,we survey 300 students in a Medical University who are in clinical medicine, some of which are grade 1,and the others are grade 3.Statistical Analysis Methods:Excel 2007 database and Spssl 3.0 had been applied to analysis and deal with the results of questionnaire and we did a chi-square test on the investigation of two different grades results. Results and DiscussionsThrough the analysis on the current status of curriculums of Master professional degree in clinical medicine in 19 medical colleges which have the rights to confer professional degree in clinical medicine,we found that all the universities adopt the same discipline-centered curriculum designing models as the curriculum of academic degree in clinical medical. These 19 medical colleges set up political theory courses, English, methods courses, professional basic courses and specialized courses for students, and only a few of them set up clinical skills in medical schools and clinical training of thinking abilities and professionalism courses which should be within the scope of a required course. In the part of the contents of the above, the English language, methods, and political theory courses take up 66%of the total course credits, professional basic courses and specialized courses take up the course credits in total credits of 34%.And 19 medical schools have a sharp difference in the distribution of the credits, and ignore the training on communicative skillsand professional attitude.Through the evaluation and needs analysis of medical curriculum among 300 professional post-graduates,we found that the current curriculum model overlapped to a large degree with the undergraduates. The breadth, frontier, diversity and the contribution to the medical activities are not enough.Students in Master professional degree in clinical medicine argue that their courses should be mainly based on clinical skills training, combined with supplements to professional knowledge and following by the basic knowledge of medical learning and professional attitudes of medical training. Conceming about specific course content, the students argue that they first should learn the medical theory, followed by frontier progress and methodology, experimental courses and cross-disciplinary knowledge, with the need of knowledge of human social sciences ranked in the final. Conclusions and suggestionsBy integrating the status quo of the courses in 19 medical schools and survey of 300 students as well as the analysis of some relevant literature,we found that China's current curriculum designing play a positive role in providing students with a comprehensive knowledge and scientific methods. But sufficient attention has not been given to clinical thinking and skills as well as the quality of vocational training. The course content is overlapped in the vertical and horizontal aspects, but lacks of breadth, diversity and frontier. Thus the existing curriculum system can not achieve the objective of bringing up qualified post-graduates fully. It can no longer meet the scientific and technological progress and the requirements of senior medical professionals. There is an urgent need to speed up our response and reform to post-graduate courses. We propose to use the quality education as the guiding methodology according to the social need, physical and mental development of post-graduates,put forward systematic and comprehensive reform on the curriculum and set up a quality-oriented curriculum system.
