The Construction Of Information Platform For Evidence-based Medicine In Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Background: Although the massive articles on the researches of the inflammation bowel disease (IBD) have been published, but the majority of them are about the laboratory researches and the basic researches. The articles about the clinical researches are too few to supply the enough randomized controlled trials (RCT) to meet the clinical needs. It is difficult to form the IBD treatment guidelines based on them, therefore we need a great of Internet information resources of evidence-based medicine (EBM) to instruct the practice. The EBM, on the scientific criteria, extract 10% of the massive medical literatures that have the higher-level academic value to provide the best evidence for clinical practice and the medical decision making. The network information resources of EBM distribute separately and possess various academic levels so that their collection, searching and utilization are inconvenient. So selection of the information resources and searching for the best evidence are the key to the EBM practice. The Information service personnel have the ability of knowledge appraisal and information analysis to offer the most useful information for clinician's.Aim: In view of the difficulty of medical staff in gaining the best evidence during the practice, we set up an information platform for evidence-based medicine in inflammatory bowel disease to offer the convenience for the medical staff to obtain the most useful information for the practice under the new clinical medicine pattern.Methods: Based on the browser/server structure, we take the Microsoft Windows 2000 as the server system to connect the Web server and the database server through ODBC. We select Microsoft SQL Server as the backstage database to guarantee the data integrity and validity and use Microsoft FrontPage2002 and ASP as tools to develop the front application software for realizing the best user operation interface design. The data resources are the EBM databases(CDSR, CCTR, Best Evidence, Clinical Evidence),the clinical practice guides(NGC, CMA, NZGG,GAC),the biomedical database(Medline/PubMed,CBMdisc), the EBM electron periodicals, the EBM research communities, and the EBM information web sites.Results: The information service platform mainly has three parts:â‘ IBD evidence database provide the easy retrieval means in the user interface and utilizes the ASP for data browsing and inquiring;â‘¡EBM consult platform provides three ways of EBM advisory service, FAQ, Web- forms, BBS;â‘¢EBM network resources navigation, collection the related network resources, arrange these resources to make the navigation table for user to locate conveniently. The information platform operates well through testing. It supplies the clinical doctors with the rapidly available information on diagnosis and therapy,and opens a new way for improving the medical technology and seeking the reasonable scientific evidences . Conclusion: The above research results plays a positive role in advancing EBM in IBD and applying effectively EBM researches achievement in practice , and enable medical staff to acquire more effective scientific evidence for clinical practice,thus promoting the development of clinical medicine.
