Objective:To observe the effects of needling combined with function training on thebalance function of stroke patients.Method:Fourty patients were randomly divided into two groups, treatment group andcontrol group. There were 20 patients each group. Patients in the control groupwere treated with the routine function training method, while those in thetreatment group received the treatment of acupuncture in addition to theconventional therapy. All patients were assessed before and after training period.The evaluating items included (1)Berg balance scale for balance function. (2)Fugl-Meyer measurement for the motor function of lower extremities. (3)Barthel index scales for ability of daily life.Results:(1)There is a significant improvment (P<0.01 ) of balance function, the motorfunction of lower extremities, ability of daily life both in the treatment groupand the control group before and after training period.(2)There is a significant difference (P<0.05 ) of balance function, the motorfunction of lower extremities, ability of daily life between the treatment groupand the control group after treatment.(3) Significant relationships were found among balance function, the motorfunction of lower extremities, ability of daily life (r=0.867-0.910, P<0.001 ) .Conclusions:(1) The routine method of function training and the method combinedacupuncture all can improve balance function, the motor function of lowerextremities, ability of daily life.But the latter is better than the former. (2) There were significant relationships among balance function, the motor function of lower extremities, ability of daily life of the stroke patients. It indicated that the improvement of balance function is benefit to the motor function of lower extremities and ability of daily life of stroke patients.
