ObjectivesThis research aims to investigate knowledge awareness of hepatitis C of the medical staff. On this basis, another purpose is exploring the differences of medical staff’s knowledge awareness of hepatitis C between five provinces.MethodsCombined with STD/AIDS prevention and control center and the Chinese medical association of liver, who sponsored the "national hepatitis C prevention training programs-clinical management and treatment" training. The quantitative part field selects Jilin, Henan, Hunan, Jiangsu and Shaanxi provinces, and the qualitative part selects three provinces’ medical staff of Hunan, Henan and Liaoning for in-depth individual interview. general demographic characteristics, clinical diagnosis, treatment and protective measures.Quantitative research:trained investigators organized the medical staffs who attended training to fill in the questionnaire at the beginning. Every time it took about 15 to 20 minutes to finish the questionnaire, then the investigators collected and analysised the questionnaire, and achieved the medical staffs’ knowledge and skills of cognitive status of hepatitis C. It adopted Epidata3.1 to improve the data entry, and SAS9.2 for data analysis. The composition ratio, mean and standard deviation described the general information among medical staff, The basic knowledge of hepatitis C, diagnostic and treatment skills, and protective measures of cognition was described by composition ratio. Two level variance component model of multi-level model compared and analysises cognitive status differences of hepatitis C prevention knowledge and skills among medical staffs among the five provinces.Qualitative research:Adopting the method of individual in-depth interviews modifies and perfects preliminary experiments according to experts suggestions. According to the content of the quantitative research, select 18 medical staff from henan, hunan and Liaoning for in-depth understanding. After the interview, translating the interview content into writing material in time, and notes using the ATLAS software coded, classified and analyzed.ResultsIn this study, it was investigated 413 quantitative questionnaires, and 18 qualitative personal interview.1. Quantitative researchDemographic characteristics: Male 187, female 226, and the ratio is 0.8:1. Age is normally distributed, and the average age is 39.6±8.6 years old.66.83% is bachelor’s degree; 56.17% is from infections department. Working life distribution is relatively uniform, and the secondary medical institutions accounted for 58.84%.Basic knowledge:The 413 medical staffs master the basic common knowledge of HCV well, and the highest to 99.52%, which question is that the major transmission of HCV is through blood.Diagnosis and treatment: The diagnosis and treatment of knowledge and skills of the 413 medical staff about hepatitis C prevention is in a low level. Especially the most important diagnosis basis of hepatitis C clinical cases, the time of detecting HCV-RNA, and the laboratory diagnosis of hepatitis C. The ratios are respectively 27.12%,43.58% and 64.65%.Protective measures:Medical staffs lack of correct cognition to hepatitis C’s protective measures knowledge, especially in the awareness of standard prevention principle, the use of protective barriers, such as wearing masks, gloves, wear protective clothes and so on. And the correct answer is 54.00%,64.65% and 67.31%, respectively.Medical staffs’cognitive status of hepatitis C prevention knowledge and skills in the five provinces:It is selected more than 45 years old age group as a dummy variable, concluding that it is statistically significant between 44 age group and 45 years old age group. Selecting master degree and above group as a dummy variable, and the correct answer problem of total score is statistically significant in college degree and the following group and master’s or above staffs group. Additionally, it also has statistically significant between infective families and non-infective department, and the former has a higher total score. The total difference is 7.5053, and the Intra-Class Correlation is 1.89%. It can conclude that 1.89% of total difference caused by different departments, and 98.11% can explain by medical staffs.2. Qualitative researchDemographic characteristics:Qualitative research interviews 6 persons each provinvece, including Henan, Hunan, and Liaoning. Secondary and tertiary medical institutions selected three persons each province.72.22% of bachelor’s degree,55.56% for infective families, 44.44% had been working for 10 to 19 years.Diagnosis skills:Medical staffs lack of understanding of diagnose reference files of hepatitis C, and also are not clear about classification of clinical cases and lab cases.Treatment skills:Medical staff lacks of correct cognition of the treatment standard, effective treatment, and the cure rate in patients with hepatitis C. Tertiary medical institutions relatively grasp better than secondary medical institutions.Protective measures:Medical staff general lacks of correct cognition of hepatitis C protective knowledge, hoping participate more times in professional protective knowledge trainings. Conclusions1. Medical staff lacks of understanding of hepatitis C’s diagnose and treatment knowledge and skills. Especially in diagnose standard and classification, and the cure ratio.2. Medical staff’s cognition of HCV protective measures is poorer, and protective consciousness is weak.3. There exists difference in the first level of different department medical staffs, but there is no differernce in the second level.
