Type 2 diabetes is a common chronic illness that harms human beings world widely. It is metabolic disorder with the character of hyperglycemia that is associated with environmental and genetic factors. Due to the modern lifestyle—high living stress, less physical activity, excessive processed food that is short of minerals and fibers, the abnormality of insulin secretion and function is induced hence resulting in metabolic disorder -- type 2 diabetes arises progressively. Recent researches have showed the insulin resistance is the vital pathological foundation of type 2 diabetes, it is recognized that the cure would be expected by reversing or alleviating the insulin resistance.The mainstream treatment for type 2 diabetes is to reduce blood sugar and control diet, adjuvant by treating the complications. More and more researches now focus on insulin resistance and life quality of patients. Besides to reduce the blood sugar, the aims of treatment nowadays also address the modulation of life style including diet, exercise and emotions, prevention of complications in order to improve the life quality. TCM treatment does have proved efficacy in improving clinical symptoms, preventing and controlling the complications, relieving insulin resistance through its multi target mechanism, which provide the possibility of cure. This study was designed to observe the efficacy on type 2 diabetes with kidney qi deficiency and liver qi stagnation by applying Chia Qi Ba Wei Fang.Purpose: observation of clinical efficacy and life quality of type 2 diabetes by treatment of warm the kidney and modulate the liver. Methodology: 43 subjects with type 2 diabetes were recruited; all were undertaking western medication, yet having high glucose and /or symptoms that complied to the category of kidney yang deficiency and liver qi stagnation. 21 males and 22 females, age from 41 to 75 years old. 23 subjects are in treatment group with average age 56.4 year old and 9.1 years of diabetes; 20 subjects are in control group with average 56.9 year old and 8.5 years of diabetes. Subjects in treatment group were given herbal medicine with their existing western medication no change; subjects in control group remained existing medication for 10-week Observation. SPSS was used to compare HbA1C; fasting glucose, 2 hours after meal glucose, clinical symptoms and questionnaire of quality of life. Results: total effectiveness is 73.9% in treatment group. There is remarkable difference in HbA1c (P<0.01), Fasting glucose (P<0.05) and total cholesterol between two groups. There is extremely difference in total score of clinical symptoms between two groups (P<0.001), extremely difference, remarkable difference and difference in score of quality of life in physical condition (P<0.001), satisfaction with the treatment (P<0.01) and stamina (P<0.05) respectively. Conclusion: The formula is based on the principle of warming the kidney and regulating the liver and expacting the effectiveness on reducing the blood glucose and improving the quality of life on type 2 diabetic patients.
