| Since the beginning of the new century, the aging of China’s population has been characterized by "old before rich" and "urban-rural inversion",and the aging situation in rural areas is complicated and severe, and agricultural production is facing the situation of having no one to succeed it.Although demographic transformation is an inevitable historical phenomenon in human social development, the national situation is such that China has a long-standing urban-rural dichotomy, and rural problems involve political, economic, social and cultural aspects, which are more complicated to solve.Based on this, the purpose of this study is to scientifically understand the facts of demographic transition in rural areas and the impact of health investment in rural areas on China’s agricultural economy, and to explore whether health investment can be used as a way to improve the quality of rural labor force and increase human capital accumulation? Can health investment be used as a way to solve the challenges of labor shortage and increasing aging in rural areas, promote agricultural economic growth, and provide new interpretations of the causes of agricultural economic growth? The answers to the above questions are important for promoting the rural revitalization strategy and realizing the modernization of agriculture and rural areas,as well as promoting high-quality agricultural development. This paper is based on the research idea of "problem formulation-theoretical research-current situation analysis-empirical test-problem solving",taking the aging of rural areas in China as the background, and the relationship between health investment and agricultural economic The main object of this paper is to study the relationship between health investment and agricultural economic growth, and the economic effect of health investment.Firstly,we propose the realistic problem of this paper according to the research background, list the methods and core conclusions of some representative literature according to the review of domestic and foreign literature, analyze the shortcomings of existing literature, and determine the research perspective and ideas of this paper.Secondly, the relationship between rural aging, health investment and agricultural economy is studied through the academic history combing of concept definition and theoretical foundation, and the related influence mechanism is analyzed.Again, the development trend and current situation of rural aging, health investment level and agricultural economy in China since the new century are introduced separately through statistical analysis methods. Then,a mediating effect model is established by combining static and dynamic panel data to empirically test the impact of health investment on agricultural economic growth. Finally, corresponding countermeasure suggestions are proposed based on the research findings. The specific research findings are as follows:First, rural aging is detrimental to the improvement of labor force quality and the accumulation of human capital. The analysis shows that rural aging leads to a decline in the physical, educational, and scientific quality of the labor force, which leads to a decline in the quality of the labor force and thus inhibits the accumulation of rural human capital. The empirical results show that the effect of rural aging on labor force quality is significantly negative in all cases. Also, there are regional differences in the effects of rural aging on labor force quality and agricultural economy.Second, health investment has a positive effect on agricultural economic growth by affecting labor force quality, while it has a non-significant effect on agricultural economic growth by affecting labor force quantity. The analysis shows that there is a partial mediating effect of health investment in static with 34.82% of mediating effect and a full mediating effect in dynamic;in robustness test, there is a partial mediating effect of replacing health investment index with private health investment with34.53% of mediating effect and a full mediating effect of replacing labor quality with real rural human capital per capita.Third, there are regional differences in the impact of health investment on agricultural economic growth. The analysis shows that the effect of health investment on labor quality is significantly positive in the three major regions of east and west;the effect of health investment on agricultural economic growth is significantly positive in the eastern and western regions and negative in the western region;in the mediating effect, there is a mediating effect with labor quality as the mediating variable in the eastern and central regions, and the mediating effect is insignificant and masking effect in the ministry. This paper proposes the following policy recommendations:(1)Implement the strategy of "active aging in rural areas" in accordance with local conditions, and release the dividends of the elderly population.Specifically,we will develop rural elderly industries and promote employment for the elderly;we will support elderly agriculture and play the role of a "stabilizer" in rural areas.(2)Implement the "healthy aging strategy in rural areas" and pay attention to the health of the elderly population.Specifically,we will focus on chronic diseases of the elderly population, psychological health of the empty nesters, and social adaptation of the elderly population.(3)Promote the construction of healthy villages and strengthen rural medical services.Specifically, this includes rational allocation of medical resources to improve service efficiency;improving the talent training mechanism and strengthening the talent pool of rural doctors;and strengthening the peer-to-peer support from higher-level hospitals to rural doctors.(4)Broaden health investment channels and promote the accumulation of human capital in rural areas.Specifically, these include;improving the investment mechanism of rural medical and health system and increasing the supply of public health products;strengthening the health education of the people and raising villagers’ health awareness;developing health industry and innovating health investment forms.(5)Continuously improve the level of agricultural mechanization and weaken the negative impact of aging on the agricultural economy.Specifically,we should improve the level of agricultural machinery research and development according to the needs of people and places;improve the accuracy of agricultural machinery purchase subsidies to reduce the cost of agricultural inputs;and expand agricultural production "outsourcing" services to weaken the impact of the aging agricultural labor force. |
