At present,China’s economy has shifted from a high-speed growth stage to a highquality development stage, and the stable and efficient improvement of total factor productivity is an inherent requirement. As an emerging economic form after agricultural economy and industrial economy, digital economy is not only conducive to optimizing factor allocation and promoting technological innovation, but also the key to promoting total factor productivity.Studying the impact of digital economy on total factor productivity can serve economic structural transformation and provide new momentum for economic development, which is of great significance for promoting high-quality economic development. On the basis of combing and drawing on the existing literature, this paper focuses on exploring the impact mechanism of digital economy on urban total factor productivity, and the main research ideas are as follows: First, taking important discussions such as economic growth theory and factor endowment theory as the theoretical basis,by analyzing the impact of digital economy on productivity and production relations,it is believed that digital economy has a direct role in promoting total factor productivity, and around the mechanism analysis, the theoretical hypothesis that digital economy may promote total factor productivity growth through innovation driving effect and factor allocation effect is put forward. Then, the data measurement analysis is carried out,the entropy weight method is used to measure the urban digital economy development index, and the urban total factor productivity is measured by the data envelopment analysis method, and the development trend of the two is analyzed. Finally, based on the measurement data, empirical analysis tests the theoretical hypotheses proposed in this paper, and uses the two-way fixed-effect model and mediated effect model to test the impact, mechanism and heterogeneity of the development of digital economy on total factor productivity in 280 cities in China from 2011 to 2019.The main research conclusions of this paper are: first, the development trend of digital economy and total factor productivity in all cities in China is good, but there is an imbalance in regional development, and the development of digital economy and total factor productivity are characterized by high in the east, low in the central and western regions and in the northeast.Second, the digital economy significantly promotes the growth of total factor productivity, that is,the higher the level of digital economy development, the higher the growth rate of total factor productivity, and the improvement effect of digital economy on total factor productivity is still valid after a series of endogenous tests and robustness tests.Third, the digital economy can empower total factor productivity by promoting technological innovation and optimizing the transmission of factor allocation.Specifically, the development of digital economy can improve total factor productivity by improving urban innovation capabilities, changing traditional economic development models, improving the liquidity of factor markets and factor allocation efficiency.Fourth, the promotion effect of digital economy on total factor productivity will be heterogeneous due to different geographical location, city scale and urban industrial structure. The digital economy has a stronger role in promoting the total factor productivity of large-scale cities and a weaker promotion effect on small-scale cities. The promotion effect on urban total factor productivity in the western region is more obvious than that on other regions.Cities with a high level of industrial structure upgrading will benefit more from the development of the digital economy than other cities.Based on the above research conclusions, this paper puts forward relevant policy implications: we should make full use of the dividends of the digital economy, give full play to the innovation driving effect and factor allocation effect of the digital economy, coordinate the development of the digital economy of cities in various regions by formulating region-specific digital economy strategies, and promote the high-quality development of urban economies in different regions. |
