The historic transformation of the main contradiction of our society has forced the economy to shift from high-speed development to high-quality development and promoted the great change of industrial structure. As the main force of China’s real economy, traditional manufacturing industry plays the role of stable growth and employment in the national economy and livelihood protection. However, with the disappearance of the demographic dividend,China’s traditional manufacturing industry has long been "low-end lock" situation is broken. At the same time, the developed countries implement trade protectionism and establish barriers in the market competition to hinder the upgrading of China’s manufacturing technology. With the advent of digital era, digital industry brings new dynamic energy to the manufacturing industry for optimization and upgrading, and promotes the traditional manufacturing industry to complete digital transformation and upgrading, which makes the coordinated development of digital industry and traditional manufacturing industry an inevitable trend.Based on the analysis and generalization of the theory of coordinated development of digital industry and traditional manufacturing industry, this thesis selects the panel data of 30 provinces in China in the range of 2012 to 2020 for empirical research, and the main contents of the whole thesis are arranged as follows: Firstly,we have demonstrated the inner mechanism of industrial coupling and coordination between digital industry and traditional manufacturing industry from the interaction mechanism and coupling mechanism. We also establish the evaluation index of industrial coupling and coordination development, and complete the measurement of the coordination degree of digital industry and traditional manufacturing industry.Secondly, the time evolution characteristics and regional difference characteristics of the coordination degree of the two industries are analyzed. The results show that the coordination degree of the two industries in China is at the stage of barely coordinated and with large differences among regions, but the overall coordination degree of the two industries is growing and has good development momentum. Finally, the spatial correlation analysis of the coupling coordination degree of the two industries shows that there is spatial correlation and agglomeration of the coupling coordination degree of the two industries. On this basis,in order to further investigate the factors affecting the coupled and coordinated development of digital industry and traditional manufacturing industry,we consider them from two perspectives, internal and external, respectively. In terms of internal factors,we use the gray correlation analysis model to estimate the role of internal factors in the coupled development of the two industries,i.e.,to explore the role of 16 factors such as Internet penetration rate and the coupled development of the two industries. In terms of external factors,we establish a spatial fixed-effect model to analyze the degree of external factors on the coupling and coordination of the two industries,i.e.,we explore the effects of human capital, infrastructure, market environment, innovation environment, industrial policy and spatial interaction terms on the coupling and coordination of China’s digital industry and traditional manufacturing industry. It is confirmed that the degree of coupled and coordinated development of two industries in China is influenced by internal factors such as the growth ability of traditional manufacturing industry and the operational efficiency of digital industry. In terms of external factors, human capital, market environment, innovation environment and industrial policy have influence on it,and the influence of infrastructure construction has uncertainty.
