Since the reform and opening up,China’s transportation infrastructure has developed rapidly, which has greatly weakened the geographical distance between regions and profoundly affected the agricultural economic activities. With the greater increase in rural areas, the liquidity constraints on the market of labor, capital, land and other factors and the market of agricultural products have decreased, the input structure of agricultural production and agricultural production and operation modes have changed, and the total factor productivity of agriculture has increased. With the continuous improvement and upgrading of the traffic network, the spatial and regional relationship is more diversified and complex, and the spatial spillover effect is more obvious. In this context,it is of great academic and strategic significance to explore the growth and driving source in China, and to study the spatial spillover effect of transportation infrastructure on agricultural total factor productivity. This paper explains the existence of the spatial spillover effect of transportation infrastructure, analyzes the influence mechanism of transportation infrastructure on agricultural total factor productivity. Then analyzes the development status of China’s transportation infrastructure from the aspects of development context, transportation structure, spatial structure, urban and rural transportation structure.Based on panel data from 25 provinces and regions in China from 1997 to 2020 and a fixed-effect random frontier model, the agricultural total factor productivity is measured and decomposed,to explore its dynamic changes, driving factors and regional differences.Last,Introduce the geographic inverse and inverse economic distance matrix,Based on the spatial panel data and the spatial Dubin model of 25 provinces from 2006-2020,Empirically test and decompose the spatial spillover effect of transportation infrastructure on agricultural total factor productivity. This paper analyzes the development status of China’s transportation infrastructure from the aspects of scale development, transportation capacity structure, spatial layout, rural transportation infrastructure and so on;Based on panel data from25 provinces and regions in China from 1997 to 2020 and a fixed-effect random frontier model,Measure and decompose the agricultural total factor productivity,Explore its dynamic changes, driving factors and regional differences;Explain the existence of the spatial spillover effect of transportation infrastructure,To study the influence mechanism of transportation infrastructure on agricultural total factor productivity;last,Introduce the geographic inverse and inverse economic distance matrix,Based on the spatial panel data and the spatial Dubin model of 25 provinces from 2006-2020,Empirically test and decompose the spatial spillover effects of transportation infrastructure on agricultural total factor productivity. The research results show that:(1)The externality, network of transportation infrastructure and the spatial correlation of economy determine the obvious space spillover effect of transportation infrastructure;the convenient transportation conditions improve the social and economic mobility in rural areas, promote agricultural land circulation and the division of labor in agricultural areas, and influence agricultural total factor productivity in terms of factor allocation optimization, technological progress and application, and economies of scale.(2)since the reform and opening up,China’s transportation infrastructure has developed rapidly;highway and railway are the main modes of transportation, assuming most of the social passenger and freight transportation;from the perspective of highway density and railway density, the spatial layout of Chinese transportation infrastructure is dense and decreasing layer by layer;rural highway occupies an important position in the transportation infrastructure system.(3)From 1998 to 2020,China’s agricultural total factor productivity grew by 5.62% annually, technological progress is the main driving force, the contribution of configuration efficiency change is increasing, and the effects of technical efficiency change and scale efficiency change are not obvious;regional differences show the fastest annual growth in the eastern region, followed by the western region, and lower in the central and northeast regions.(4)There is a significant positive spatial correlation of agricultural total factor productivity;transportation infrastructure has direct and indirect effects on agricultural total factor productivity(space spillover effects),and the regression coefficient of both is significantly positive;under the geographical inverse distance matrix and inverse economic distance matrix, the proportion of the total effect is 93% and 55%respectively.Based on the above conclusions, this paper proposes policy implications: first,to strengthen the innovation and application of agricultural technology and strengthen scientific and technological support;second,to accelerate the deepening of agricultural capital and improve the allocation efficiency;third,to strengthen the construction of rural road infrastructure and improve the circulation efficiency;fourth,to optimize the transportation function in the western region and promote the coordinated development of agricultural areas.
