Sugar is one of the important agricultural products and strategic materials in China, with sugarcane production accounting for more than 80% of the total sugar production in the country. Therefore, the sustainable development of the sugarcane industry plays a crucial role in ensuring the food security of China. However, carbon emissions have become one of the important factors restricting the sustainable development of the sugarcane industry in the context of carbon neutrality. Thus, reducing carbon emissions in the sugarcane industry has become an urgent issue to achieve green and sustainable development. This paper analyzes the industry structure of the sugarcane supply chain from the perspective of supply chain management and conducts a quantitative analysis of carbon emissions in the sugarcane supply chain using the life cycle assessment method, taking into account the biological characteristics of sugarcane production. The study shows that sugarcane production and transportation are the main sources of carbon emissions in the industry chain. Therefore, optimizing the production and transportation processes of sugarcane supply chain is an important way to reduce carbon emissions.Furthermore, this paper introduces carbon quotas and trading as factors that affect the design of the sugarcane supply chain network and uses biomass power plants as an optimization method.By using the by-product of sugarcane production, bagasse, for biomass energy generation, the circular use of energy can be achieved, thereby improving the economic and environmental benefits of the sugarcane supply chain. In conclusion, this article aimed to maximize economic profits and minimize carbon emissions in the sugarcane supply chain, and constructed a multi-level,multi-product sugarcane supply chain mixed integer programming model. The fast non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II(NSGA-Ⅱ)was used for case studies to obtain the Pareto solution set, verifying the effectiveness and feasibility of the model and algorithm. The experimental results quantitatively analyzed the economic profits and carbon emissions of the sugarcane supply chain under different decision scenarios. The research findings show that:(1)establishing a bioenergy power plant can improve the economic benefits of the sugarcane industry, but it results in much higher carbon emissions compared to not building a power plant;(2)the impact of carbon quotas and emissions trading strategies on the carbon emissions and profits of the sugarcane supply chain varies in different scenarios, and decision-makers need to balance between carbon emissions and economic profits according to their decision preferences to choose the best supply chain design.
