The Spatial Pattern Evolution And Driving Mechanism Of China’s Industrial High-end Growth

With the emergence of a new round of technological revolution,the international industrial division of labor is being reshaped.The development of high-end industry is an important strategy for the country to seize a new round of economic and technological development,and an important guarantee to improve the position of China’s industry in the global value chain,and the study of the driving mechanism of industrial high-end development is of great significance to the construction of modern industrial system and high-quality economic development.This paper defines the connotation of industrial high-end development in five aspects: quality and efficiency,structural optimization,chain integrity,solid competitiveness and green development,constructs an industrial high-end evaluation index system around five dimensions:industrial scale,industrial structure,industrial efficiency,green development and product export quality,and measures the industrial high-end level of 30 provinces(cities and districts)in China,and clarifies the spatial and temporal evolution of industrial high-end level.The spatial and temporal evolution of industrial high-end level is clarified.Meanwhile,under two settings of geographic distance weight matrix and economic geography nested weight matrix,based on provincial panel data from2005 to 2019,an empirical analysis of the drivers of industrial high-end development is conducted to explore the influence path of each factor on industrial high-end development.The main research conclusions are as follows:(1)China’s industrial high-end level is on the rise,but the overall level is low,and the development level of industrial high-end needs to be improved;the development of industrial high-end in various provinces and municipalities is uneven,with a pattern of decreasing from southeast to northwest.The eastern coastal region has the best development of industrial high-end.Henan,Sichuan and Chongqing,as a link to undertake the East and West,its industrial high-end level was once ahead of the surrounding provinces.The high-end level of the northeast region is relatively weak.(2)The level of economic development promotes the development of local industrial high-end through expanding scale,improving efficiency,promoting green industrial development and enhancing the quality of product exports,and there is a significant positive spatial spillover effect to optimize the process of industrial high-end in the neighboring regions.(3)Innovation is not only conducive to the development of local industrial upgrading,but also influences the neighboring regions through technology diffusion effect.Technological innovation and knowledge diffusion empower quality and efficiency,promote green development,and finally realize industrial high-end development.(4)Physical capital accumulation provides resources for industrial enterprises and enhances industrial upgrading by expanding industrial scale.Financial development effectively improves industrial scale and product export quality by providing financial support and broadening financing channels,which in turn is conducive to the development of industrial high-end.The improvement of infrastructure construction,while accelerating the development of local industrial high-end,inhibits the industrial high-end of neighboring provinces through the "siphon effect".Foreign direct investment and industrial agglomeration play a suppressive role in the development of industrial upgrading.This paper makes the following suggestions: Improving innovation capability is the key to industrial high-end development;Accelerating infrastructure construction and promoting the deep integration of digital technology and industry are new driving forces for industrial high-end development;Establishing international and domestic double-cycle markets and promoting regional synergistic development are important ways for industrial high-end development.
