Research On Trade Potential Of China’s Export Of High-tech Products To Major Latin American Countries

As a country’s strategic leading industry,high-tech industry plays a revolutionary role in promoting economic development and industrial transformation.Therefore,the export of high-tech products plays a crucial role in a country’s trade development.However,in recent years,the United States has indiscriminately exerted "long-arm jurisdiction" over China,continuously escalated the scientific and technological blockade,"decoupled and broken chains",and suppressed China’s high-tech industries.In this context,China has shifted its trade perspective to emerging economies,easing the pressure caused by US restrictions on China’s high-tech fields,while also finding a broader market space for its high-tech products.China and Latin America have increasingly close exchanges in political,economic,cultural and other fields,established a good cooperative partnership,and bilateral cooperation in high-tech fields also has broad space for development.This article firstly analyzes the current situation of China’s trade in high-tech products with eight Latin American countries from the perspectives of trade scale,country structure and product structure,and uses the indicative comparative advantage index and trade compatibility index to measure the competitiveness and complementarity of high-tech products between China and Latin America.The research conclusion shows that the overall scale of China’s exports of high-tech products to the eight Latin American countries has increased,but the country differences are large,and the export structure is relatively concentrated and the development is uneven.Second,the competitiveness of different Chinese high-tech products in Latin America is quite different,Scientific Instruments,Chemistry,and Pharmacy are more competitive,and Aerospace is the weakest.At the same time,China-Latin America trade is highly complementary.Secondly,this paper constructs a stochastic frontier gravitational model,and combines the characteristics of high-tech products to innovate the trade inefficiency model index,and then empirically analyzes the influencing factors of trade between China and Latin American countries,and estimates the trade potential of China’s exports of high-tech products to Latin America.From the empirical results,China’s exports of high-tech products to the eight Latin American countries are affected by multiple factors,and the GDP level is positively correlated with the export of high-tech products,and the population size and geographical distance are negatively correlated.In the trade inefficiency model,whether or not to sign free trade agreements,trade freedom,intellectual property protection level,and liner shipping connectivity index were all negatively correlated with trade resistance,while R&D input in China’s high-tech industries and the number of patents granted in technology fields were positively correlated with trade resistance.Trade efficiency and trade potential vary greatly from country to country,but on the whole,there is still a lot of room for development.Among them,the trade efficiency of Peru,Chile and Mexico is almost saturated,while the trade efficiency of Argentina,Panama and Ecuador still has great room for improvement.However,considering the efficiency of trade and the size of the domestic market,Argentina and Brazil can focus on the markets for China’s high-tech exports to Latin America.Finally,based on the above conclusions,feasible and targeted policy suggestions are proposed: Enhancing the targeted export of high-tech products and optimizing the export trade structure;Strengthening technological research and innovation,enhance the competitive advantage of high-tech products;Improving bilateral or multilateral transportation connectivity between China and Latin American countries;Accelerate the construction of free trade zones between China and Latin American countries,and improve the level of customs clearance facilitation;Strengthen cooperation in emerging technology fields and cultivate new growth points for China Latin America cooperation.
