In 2021,the number of migrant workers nationwide will reach292.51 million.By the end of March 2022,the number of migrant workers returning home to start businesses nationwide will be about 7.84 million.A wave of returning home to start businesses will gradually rise. They return to their hometown to carry out entrepreneurial and innovative activities, and use the new ideas and new models obtained in cities to drive the healthy development of rural economy and promote the rapid growth of farmers’ income. As an important indicator to measure economic development, happiness can not be ignored in social life. The Twentieth National Congress of the Communist Party of China clearly proposes to enhance the people’s sense of gain, happiness and security, which is also an important development direction for implementing policies in the future. With the attention of the academic community to happiness, the related research directions and contents are also increasing. This paper studies the impact of homecoming entrepreneurship on the subjective well-being of migrant workers. On the one hand,it considers the psychological feelings of migrant workers, and on the other hand,it can timely feedback the implementation of homecoming entrepreneurship policy. This paper focuses on entrepreneurial well-being,based on social mobility theory, social comparison theory and happiness economics theory, uses the survey data of migrant workers in 2020,and uses the ordered probit model to empirically study the impact of homecoming entrepreneurship on migrant workers’ subjective well-being,and tests the intermediary effect of economic income in the impact mechanism, and further discusses the heterogeneity from gender, age, entrepreneurial nature and other aspects.Further combine the interview cases of migrant workers returning home to capture the details and important information that were ignored in the verification of the causal relationship between returning home entrepreneurship and subjective well-being.The study found that at present, migrant workers returning home to start businesses are mainly young and middle-aged men,and the entrepreneurial field is concentrated in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery. There are still problems in the entrepreneurial process, such as limited entrepreneurial financing and lack of entrepreneurial talents and atmosphere, but the overall feeling is relatively happy.First, homecoming entrepreneurship has a positive and significant impact on the subjective well-being of migrant workers, which is positive and significant at the level of 1%.The subjective well-being of migrant workers who return home for entrepreneurship is 19.20% higher than that of migrant workers who do not return home for entrepreneurship, and the probability of feeling "very happy" in the marginal effect increases by 5.8%.The robustness test still supports the conclusion, indicating that homecoming entrepreneurship can improve the well-being of migrant workers to a certain extent.Secondly, the stepwise test coefficient method is used to empirically reveal that homecoming entrepreneurship will affect the subjective well-being of migrant workers through economic income, with partial intermediary effect.Thirdly, through heterogeneity analysis,it is found that homecoming entrepreneurship has a significant positive impact on women’s subjective well-being,but not on men’s subjective well-being;From the perspective of age, homecoming entrepreneurship has a significant positive impact on the subjective well-being of the older generation of migrant workers, but has no significant impact on the subjective well-being of the new generation of migrant workers;Homecoming entrepreneurship has a significant impact on the well-being of self-employed migrant workers, but not on employment-based entrepreneurship;Returning home to start a business has a significant impact on the well-being of migrant workers who have families working in the household, but it is not significant for migrant workers who do not work at home.Based on the above conclusions, this paper puts forward the following policy implications: Firstly, increase support for homecoming entrepreneurship policies and increase economic income;Secondly, improve the mechanism for returning home to start businesses and effectively solve the difficulties faced by migrant workers;Thirdly, implement a talent strategy to enhance the happiness of returning home for entrepreneurship.
