The Impact Of The Establishment Of The Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone On The Quality Of China’s Exports

In his report to the 18 th CPC National Congress,General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that China’s economy has shifted from a stage of rapid growth to a stage of high-quality development.High-quality development is not only an economic requirement,but a general requirement for all aspects of economic and social development.Foreign trade is an important part of the economy.To achieve the high-quality development of foreign trade is to complete the transformation of foreign trade from big to strong,among which,the most basic thing is to improve the quality of export products.The construction of pilot free trade zones is an important strategic measure implemented by the Chinese government since the new century.Its purpose is to promote the new process of national comprehensive opening-up,lead the high-quality economic development,and realize the transformation and upgrading of industrial structure.Under the above background,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to study whether the construction of the free trade zone can improve the quality of export products,and then promote the high-quality development of foreign trade.Research on the quality of export products has always been the focus in the field of foreign trade.Some scholars have discussed the factors affecting the quality of export products,including trade liberalization,foreign direct investment,government subsidies,etc.,but few scholars study the impact of the establishment policy of free trade zones policy on the quality of export products.At the same time,since the establishment of the free trade zone,relevant documents mainly discuss the economic effects of the establishment of the free trade zone from the macro level,such as total price indicators,trade creation and tax revenue,and rarely study the impact of the free trade zone construction on the quality of export products of enterprises from the micro level.Therefore,in the context of promoting high-quality economic development,it is of high research value to study the overall effect of the data of establishment,transmission mechanism and heterogeneity of the free trade zone on export product quality by enterprises and products.To study the impact of the establishment of the pilot free trade zone on the quality of export products,we should first measure the quality of export products of enterprises.This paper uses the widely used demand information regression inference method to measure the quality of export products,analyze the quality data obtained by multidimensional analysis,and obtain the relevant characteristics and facts of the quality of export products.Then to measure the results as the dependent variable,through the empirical test of Shanghai free trade area to set up the overall effect of export product quality,using two-way fixed effect model combined with dual difference model exploration found that the establishment of Shanghai free trade zone improved the export product quality of local listed companies,is conducive to the high quality development of local export products.After controlling the macro-micro indicators such as enterprise size,government subsidies and average salary in the model,the core explanatory variables are still significantly positive.Moreover,this result remained significant after a series of robustness tests,such as the matching difference,the placebo test,the change of control group and the influence of control policies in other regions in the same period.Subsequently,on the basis of theoretical research,this paper puts forward two transmission mechanisms of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone to affect the quality of enterprise export products,and tests the rationality of the mechanism through the intermediary effect model.The mechanism test results show that the establishment of Shanghai Free Trade Zone has improved the export quality of local enterprises by improving the trade openness in the region and easing the financing constraints of enterprises.In order to deeply analyze the heterogeneity impact of the establishment of Shanghai Free Trade Zone on different enterprises and different products,this paper plans to regression from different dimensions.Further research has found that the establishment of Shanghai Free Trade Zone has the quality improvement effect of large-scale enterprises and non-state-owned enterprises...
