China’s economy and society have entered a new stage of high-quality development.Under the unfavorable development environment such as the tendency of international protectionism and the imbalance of supply-side structure in the domestic market,the growth rate of Chinese industrial economy is slowed down and the internal structure is unreasonable.It is urgent to upgrade the industrial structure to support the high-quality development of Chinese economy.At the same time,the global digital revolution has brought about a new economic growth point.Digital economy is developing rapidly due to data mining,artificial intelligence and other digital technologies.Therefore,it is of great significance to grasp the opportunities of digital economic development and promote the high-quality development of our industrial economy to realize the international cognition of the transformation from "Made in China" to "Created in China".Focusing on the leading industries of national economy,this paper explores the transformation of industrial structure in the era of digital economy.The research content mainly includes three aspects: First,by sorting out the relevant research on industrial structure upgrading under the background of digital economy,starting from the comparison perspective of core concept essence logic,the connotation of industrial structure upgrading is gradually introduced layer by layer,and the mechanism of digital economy on industrial structure upgrading is systematically analyzed.Second,based on the input-output table database,the GDP accounting expenditure method was used to calculate the scale of the final products of the digital economy in China’s provinces during 2009-2020 from the demand side.Considering industrial structure coordination and upgrading,the measure method of industrial structure upgrading level is reset.Combined with the measurement results,the paper makes a comparative analysis from the two dimensions of time and region.Third,we use instrumental variable regression,dummy variable regression,intermediary effect and threshold effect econometric models to evaluate the linear and nonlinear effects of industrial structure upgrading driven by digital economy.Based on this,the paper draws the following conclusions:(1)For the development scale of digital economy,on the whole,the average annual digital economy final product scale accounts for 7.61% of GDP during 2009-2020.The sum of digital manufacturing and digital service scale accounted for 92.72% of the total scale of digital economy.There is an obvious "digital gap" in the scale of digital economy between regions,and the scale of digital economy in the east,middle,west and northeast regions is decreasing in turn.As for the upgrading level of industrial structure,in terms of time,the upgrading level of industrial structure in all regions of our country shows an increasing trend during the study sample period.Regionally,compared with the central,western and northeastern regions,the upgrading level of industrial structure in the eastern region shows significant advantages.(2)Digital economy can significantly promote the upgrading of China’s industrial structure,and this conclusion is still valid after replacing core explanatory variables,instrumental variables regression and other robustness tests.(3)From the perspective of mechanism,digital economy can promote the upgrading of industrial structure by driving the consumption upgrading at the demand side and technological innovation at the supply side;From the perspective of heterogeneity,the promoting effect of digital economy on industrial structure upgrading in different regions and different time periods has heterogeneous characteristics.Compared with the control group(central region or 2009-2015),the digital economy effect of industrial structure upgrading was more significant in the experimental group(eastern region or 2016-2020).In terms of restriction factors,the driving effect of digital economy on upgrading our industrial structure is subject to residents’ income and R&D investment.Combined with the research conclusion,the paper puts forward four specific suggestions: first,digital application as a breakthrough point to support the strong development of digital economy;Second,it takes root in the industry and promotes the upgrading of industrial structure from both ends of supply and demand.The third is to mark the heterogeneous effects of digital economy,lay out the differentiated development strategy,and strengthen the promotion effect of digital economy on the upgrading of industrial structure.Fourth,we will coordinate household income and R&D investment to unleash the effects of the digital economy in multiple dimensions. |
