Based on the availability and completeness of data from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development(UNCTAD),World Input-Output Table(WIOT)and World Bank Database(WDI),this paper selects the country-industry-year data of 18 high-tech industries in 39 countries from 2005 to2014 for empirical research. To explore the specific impact of digital service trade on the added value of export products and its internal mechanism. It is found that digital service trade can significantly promote the added value of high-tech industry exports, and the results are still significant after adding a series of robustness tests such as control variables, instrumental variables and two-way causality.Different types of export industries will lead to different effects of digital service trade on the added value of export products. That is,although digital service trade has significant effects on the added value of export products in both manufacturing and service industries, its effect on the manufacturing industry is slightly stronger than the service industry. The income level of exporting countries will also make the impact of digital service trade on the added value of export products different, that is,the impact of digital service trade on upper middle-income countries is the strongest, lower middle-income countries is slightly weaker than the former, and the impact on high-income countries is the weakest.Digital service trade mainly promotes the increase of added value of export products through technology spillover effect, and this mechanism belongs to partial transmission, that is,the effect of digital service trade on the increase of added value of export products does not completely depend on the transmission of technology spillover effect. In terms of the existing literature, this paper mainly make contribution in the following aspects: first,in terms of the research content, not only to consolidate and summarizes the related concepts of digital trade in services, also provide an estimate of the size of the global digital services trade data, further enrich the research content of digital trade in services, for subsequent empirical research also give the corresponding data support.Second,in terms of research Angle, this article mainly from this new perspective export product added value, explore the number of the specific impact on the service trade, and intrinsic mechanism, also more deeply analyzes the export product value-added role in the global value chain,to further strengthen the export product added value and the internal relation between global value chain.Third,in terms of empirical analysis, the research object of this paper is focused on the industry technology intensive industry, discussed the digital service trade how to promote the export of high technology industry promote value-added products, for the national related policy development of the digital service trade, promote the export of value-added products improve laid a good theoretical and empirical basis. This paper not only reveals the specific impact of digital service trade on the added value of export products to some extent and its internal mechanism, but also makes a heterogeneity analysis on the difference of the effect of digital service trade on the added value of export products under different factors. The above empirical analysis not only lays a solid theoretical foundation for China’s development of digital service trade, but also provides an empirical basis for the country to introduce relevant policies to promote the added value of export products. At the same time, according to the heterogeneity analysis of industry types and income levels of exporting countries, the development of digital service trade can be formulated with targeted recommendations,so as to promote the balanced development of the added value of export products in the world. To sum up,this study is not only conducive to the rapid development of digital service trade, but also conducive to enterprises to actively improve their own technological level to promote the added value of export products, and can also provide relevant policy enlightenment for China to achieve high-quality development of service trade. |
