Natural catastrophes and social emergencies have been more common in recent years, substantially increasing the likelihood of supply chain disruption, which will result in significant losses for businesses. In this situation, supply chain resilience management has gained a lot of attention in the field of supply chain management and is crucial to how businesses operate. The collaboration between businesses in supply chain networks is growing closer as a result of the quick development of digital technology and the increased globalization process.Businesses are gradually embedding themselves into supply chain networks in an effort to collaborate more closely and increase their competitive advantages. At the same time, they can minimize their losses by coordinating supply chain network resources when risks come. However, the complexity of different supply chain networks is also different, and its influence on supply chain resilience needs further study. At present, few scholars pay attention to the relationship between the two,and the influence mechanism of network complexity on supply chain resilience is not fully revealed. As a result, this paper develops a theoretical model based on dynamic capability theory and embeddedness theory, investigates the mechanism by which supply chain network complexity affects supply chain resilience, and evaluates how the use of digital technology controls the relationship between supply chain network complexity and supply chain resilience using the TOE framework.Based on the analysis of 325 questionnaires issued by the manufacturing industry, information transmission, software and information technology service industry, wholesale and retail related supply chain enterprises, the relationship between supply chain network complexity and supply chain resilience is further explored. The empirical analysis was based on the mixed method of partial least square structural equation model(PLS-SEM)and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis(fs QCA),and the mixed method was cross-verified for the conceptual model.Firstly, partial least squares structural equation model is used to reveal the direct effect of network complexity on supply chain resilience and the moderating effect of digital technology application on their relationship. On this basis, the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis method is further used to explore the configuration path of high supply chain resilience under the combined action of digital technology application and supply chain network complexity and other influencing factors,so as to supplement and verify the PLS-SEM results. The results of PLE-SEM show that transparency, dependency and network embeddedness have positive effects on supply chain resilience, while distance has negative effects on supply chain resilience. The application of digital technology plays a certain role in regulating the relationship between network complexity and supply chain resilience. From the perspective of configuration,fs QCA supplemented the conclusions of PLS-SEM to some extent, and further verified the important role of transparency, dependence and network embeddedness in the construction of highly resilient supply chain.Firms with high supply chain resilience show six configurations: "Digital technology application-Network embeddedness-~ Distance" type,"Transparency-Network embeddedness-~ Distance" type,"Digital technology application-Transparency" type,"Digital technology application-Transparency-Dependency" type,"Digital technology application-Dependency-Network embeddedness" type and "Transparency-Dependency" type. The research conclusions also further expand and enrich the theoretical and practical achievements in the field of supply chain network complexity and supply chain resilience. |
