Abstract/Summary:
Since the reform and opening up,the "three carriages" of consumption, investment, and exports have played a crucial role in the rapid growth of China’s economy. However,as China’s economy enters a new stage, especially the need for supply side structural reform and the new global changes that have taken place since the COVID-19,the traditional economic situation with investment and export as the main body is gradually not suitable for China’s national conditions, and consumption,as the end point and new starting point of social reproduction, plays an increasingly prominent role in the sustainable development of China’s economy in the future. Therefore,at the current stage, continuously improving the level of urban consumption and leveraging the driving effect of consumption on the economy has become a top priority for China’s current layout and economic work.As a major economic province in China,Shandong Province has major transportation arteries such as the Beijing Shanghai,Changshen,Qinglan, and Qingyin expressways, connecting North and East China. The vast majority of cities have a complete transportation network, providing prerequisite conditions for factor flow;Since the reform and opening up,with the rapid development of the economy and society, urbanization construction in Shandong Province has also made significant progress, and the level of urbanization has significantly improved, playing an important role in optimizing industrial development and factor transfer and circulation; At the same time, the transportation network and urbanization development also exhibit a highly coupled and coordinated relationship in both theory and practice. Therefore, this article explores the impact of transportation network and urbanization level on the consumption level of various cities in Shandong Province, which has important practical significance. This article first reviews the literature on transportation network, urbanization level, and urban consumption level, and grasps the perspective, research methods, and current research status of relevant research at the current stage through the literature achievements of existing scholars;Based on relevant economic theories, explore the mechanism of the impact of transportation networks and urbanization levels on urban consumption levels, and provide a theoretical basis for research;Subsequently, based on relevant research and considering the actual situation,a comprehensive evaluation index system for transportation networks and urban consumption levels was constructed. The entropy method was used to measure the development level of the two,and the historical trends and current situation of transportation networks, urbanization levels, and consumption levels in various cities were described. At the same time, the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics of consumption levels in various cities in Shandong Province were analyzed; Finally,a spatial econometric model is used to explore the impact and spatial effects of transportation network and urbanization level on urban consumption levels in sixteen cities in Shandong Province. The research results of this article indicate that, without considering the interaction effect, the transportation network has a positive promoting effect on the urban consumption level in this region, but has a inhibitory effect on other areas such as the surrounding and peripheral areas. The level of urbanization has a positive impact on the consumption level both inside and outside the region. When the two and their interaction effects are combined into a research framework, the core explanatory variable is significantly positive for the dependent variable in terms of both internal and external regional and spatial overall effects.Specifically, the transportation network has a promoting effect on the improvement of urban consumption level due to its agglomeration effect, and its factor transfer and diffusion effect also has a positive impact on the surrounding areas; The improvement of urbanization level has a significant driving effect on the improvement of consumption level in sixteen cities in Shandong Province, and its impact effect is greater than that of transportation network; The interaction effect between the two has a significant positive promoting effect on the consumption levels of the local area, other regions, and the overall space. Finally,in response to the research conclusions of this article, combined with the current development status and actual situation of transportation network, urbanization process, and urban consumption in Shandong Province, three countermeasures and suggestions were proposed, including "accelerating the construction of transportation network system, exerting the role of factor flow carriers","promoting the improvement of urbanization level, promoting the aggregation of various factors",and "building an international consumption center city, exerting the radiation and driving role of leading cities",Assist in the improvement of consumption levels in various cities in Shandong Province and the construction of international consumption center cities.
