In turbulent business environment,firms confront more uncertainty and complexity Nowadays.Hit by the unexpected COVID-19 pandemic,manufacturing firms suffer profit decreases and fail to balance revenue and expenditure.It seems a core issue how enterprises preserve stability and meanwhile seek opportunities for changes and innovation in turbulence.As new technologies turned up,such as Big-data and AI,for one thing,Chinese government emphasizes on establishing China Figures,and introduce new policies to encourage firms’digital transformation,for another,advanced enterprises in manufacturing industry make initial succeed in digital transformation.Afterwards,Chinese manufacturing firms respond to policies,follow the forerunners and begin digital transformation positively.However,the practice is unable to meet expectations:without digitalization core competence and suitable transformation process,digitalization measures are not profound and manufacturing forms remain lower performance.Among academic circles,compared with various research on digitalization,research on digital capabilities is relatively limited.Some scholars tried to identify the construction and dimension of digital capabilities,while few papers discuss the mechanism for digital capabilities.As digital capabilities and dynamic capabilities interact and the boundary of two definitions are indistinct,it is quite necessary to combine both two capabilities and seek the marginal effect of digital dynamic capabilities on manufacturing firms’ performance.Based on the above,this paper clearly defines the definitions such as digital dynamic capabilities,dual innovations and organization inertia,and according to dynamic capabilities theory and organization ambidexterity theory,systematically analyze the path and mechanism on which digital dynamic capabilities improve the manufacturing enterprises’ performance.Chinese manufacturing enterprises participate the survey and the data was collected via 290 questionnaires and statistically analyzed to test hypothesis.Our findings reveal that:(1)digital dynamic capabilities,established by manufacturing firms,significantly improve performance by firstly driving dual innovations,of which the combined dimension plays a intermediary role.;(2)organization inertia can positively moderate the relationship between digital dynamic capabilities and dual innovation,which means that in those manufacturing enterprises with digital dynamic capabilities the active effect of inertia on innovation is greater than the passive effect weakened by digital dynamic capabilities;(3)in high-tech manufacturing enterprises,digital dynamic capabilities play a more significant role on promoting firm performance.
