The Yellow River Basin is an important agricultural production area in China. It is a base of energy, chemical and basic industries and plays an important role in the national economy.A comprehensive understanding of the water footprint of various industries in the Yellow River Basin can make water-saving policies scientifically and objectively, and make more rational use of water resources. On the basis of combing relevant theories and analyzing the current situation of water resources in the Yellow River Basin, this paper calculates the industrial water footprint of the Yellow River basin by using the input-output method, based on the grey relational analysis model, this paper empirically analyzes the influencing factors of water footprint in the Yellow River Basin, and grasps the utilization of water resources in the study area as a whole and the characteristics of water use in various industries,it provides targeted and Operability water saving suggestions for the rational utilization of water resources in the Yellow River Basin. The main conclusions of the study are as follows:(1)from the perspective of time, from 2002 to 2017,the total total water footprint of industries in the Yellow River Basin region showed a “V”pattern of first decreasing and then increasing, this is basically consistent with the trend of the total amount of industrial water use in the Yellow River Basin.(2)from the industrial point of view, the total production water footprint of agriculture shows a downward trend, and the total production water footprint of the other 14 industries increases. The top three growth sectors were construction, services, food and tobacco. The sectors with the smallest increases are water production and supply.(3)from the perspective of regional differences, the change of the total water footprint of Qinghai Province is not obvious, the total water footprint of Shanxi Province shows a fluctuating upward trend, and that of Shandong Province shows a linear upward trend, the change of total production water footprint in 6 provinces is consistent with the general trend of the Yellow River Basin, including Inner Mongolia,Ningxia,Gansu,Sichuan,Shaanxi and Henan.(4)for the Yellow River Basin as a whole, the order of water footprint driving factors from large to small is: Water Investment, population, foreign trade dependence, precipitation, industrial structure, economic factors, science and technology factors. For the province of the Yellow River Basin, the industrial factors and population factors have relatively great influence on the change of the local water footprint, and the scientific and technological factors have relatively small influence.Based on the conclusions, this paper puts forward some suggestions to optimize the industrial structure and improve water conservancy infrastructure in the Yellow River Basin, and looks forward to the future research direction.
