Emotion is an important part of today’s media space,and emotional factors are widely used in journalistic practice.As digital journalism research is facing an emotional turn,this study follows the path of emotional research of journalistic texts,selects "CCTV News" as the research object to examine its emotional communication expression and communication effects,in order to understand the role of emotion in Chinese journalism.The journalistic texts express six kinds of emotions,such as good,happy,fear,anger,sorrow and evil.Continuing Chinese Journalism’s tradition of "adhering to positive Publicity”,journalists tend to express positive emotions in its journalistic texts.In terms of emotional narrative mode,"feeling","judgment" and "evaluation" are widely used in journalistic texts.Rather than outsourcing their emotional attitudes to news figures or sources,journalists tend to express their emotions directly,which is very different from the "strategic rituals of emotion" in Western media.This gap stems from news production practices of Chinese and Western media: Western media emphasize news objectivity;China’s media pay more attention to the guidance of public opinion.Emotional communication of journalistic texts is the process of archetypal narratives functioning.Based on the collective unconscious that is precipitated in the national psychological structure,the narrative of journalistic texts releases the emotions that are precipitated in the hearts of the audience,thus generating a wide sharing of meaning and collective identity,in order to enhance the proliferation and influence of news.In addition,close-ups,headline captions,background music and simultaneous sound are all used to enhance the infectiousness of journalistic texts to create emotional atmosphere,stimulate emotional energy,and trigger the emotional resonance of the audience.Different emotional expression strategies lead to different effects.However,emotional expression do not always make positive effects.Compared with short video news that expresses emotions such as "good" and "happy",short video news that expresses emotions such as "evil","fear" and "anger" tends to stimulate the audience’s comments and sharing behaviors.News with negative emotions is more infectious and more likely to influence audience engagement.Audiences tend to like news with high sentiment values.The emotional communication practice of Chinese media on social media platforms represented by "CCTV News" on Douyin has shaped the important landscape of China’s journalism.Emotional factors are deeply embedded in the journalistic practice,shaping the direction,effectiveness and models of communication.The core motive of this emotional communication model is to comply with the current media development trend,to compete for the audience’s attention,and to enhance the media’s influence and guidance in the online public opinion arena.The operation mechanism is focus on the selection of communication content and the deployment of audio-visual elements to stimulate and meet the audience’s emotional need,so as to enhance emotional resonance and identification,and ultimately achieve the mainstream media’s mission of strengthening mainstream social values and shaping social consensus.In the digital age,technological affordances enhance the impact of emotion on journalism.Emotional connection is the inherent logic of short video news.The news media is not only a provider of factual information,but also a platform for emotional communication,an important factor influencing the formation of an emotional community.Emotions are materialized through of news discourse,especially emotions such as patriotism,heroism and humanism that bring the public together based on embedding,exhibition,stimulation and interaction,achieving emotional resonance and constructing an emotional community,thereby strengthening National identity,cultural identity and identity among the public.However,the role of emotion in journalistic practice should be viewed rationally.While acknowledging that emotional factors in news enhance the effectiveness of communication,it is also necessary to reflect on the fact that emotion-driven practices dissipate the status of objective facts in news,which may lead to group polarisation and hinder high-quality public participation.Constructive practical paths for communicating emotions in the news should be built by following the principles of journalistic authenticity,using emotional factors in news carefully,and focusing on the value of emotions in social mobilisation and social integration.
