Abstract/Summary:
Contemporary society is built from a rich and complex set of interactions, and connections have become the most essential, common and ordinary relationships in human society.Technological progress is driven not only by the demand for labor, but also by the demand for connection, which facilitates the establishment of connection relationships, but does not necessarily strengthen them, and may even cause resistance to them, forming an anti-connection.The Douban "anti-technology dependency group" is one such online community, whose members are basically wary and alert to technology, while trying to resist connections that make them uncomfortable. In this community, all members have felt and experienced the negative effects of technology,so why has the most essential relationship of connection led to the emergence of anti-connection due to the advancement of technology? From the field of the anti-technology dependency group, this paper immerses itself in the recorded thoughts of the community members and puts itself in their shoes to see the changes that have occurred in the relationship of connection.Through the study of a community with a large number of disconnected individuals,we hope to analyze in detail the emergence, development, manifestations, and consequences of disconnection. In this paper,we use a combination of online ethnography,in-depth interviews, and textual analysis to provide a comprehensive overview of the formation of individual anti-connection awareness, specific practices, effects, and impacts of anti-connection activities. In the analysis of member characteristics,it was found that for people with high media literacy, the greater the perceived pressure to connect than those with low media literacy, the higher their awakening of anti-connection awareness and willingness to do so.In the analysis of the texts of the group posts, the perceived sources of stress and the types of negative emotions generated by the members were found, and the members’ practice records and emotional changes during the practice were also observed. The different types of practice types of group members stem from different counter-connective purposes and needs, and can likewise have different effects.Avoidant withdrawal or unloading,as well as resistant domestication, can affect the entire behavioral process of anti-connection.The emergence of the idea of disconnection does not imply total resistance to technology, but rather indicates that some individuals and groups have the awareness and ability to propose strategies to cope with the pressure of technological progress to ensure human subjectivity in the "human-machine" relationship.Although the idea of anti-connectivity has not been widely disseminated in society,it has been a catalyst for social change.
