Researching And Applying Sonification To Sketching For Blind People

Graphics are one of the most commonly used information carriers in our lives,which have strong information-carrying and expressive capabilities and can present very subtle detail changes.With the development of mobile devices and Internet technology,the creation and dissemination of graphics has become more and more convenient,and people are more and more fond of using graphics in daily communication and content creation.However,the heavy use of graphics has made it more and more difficult for the blind people to use the Internet.While there is a plethora of accessible assistive technologies that help blind people understand the content of graphics,very little research has focused on how to help blind people create graphics.This study applies sonification to the sketching for blind people,and proposes a new solution for sketching without visual feedback.In the part of theoretical research,the effect of sonification on the sketching task was first explored in a scenario with limited visual feedback.The results showed that sonification can be used as a second method of information transfer to help participants draw higher-quality graphics when visual feedback was occluded.Second,the feasibility of this research was verified in a scene without visual feedback at all.The results showed that sonification could also help participants achieve better graphics quality without visual feedback.In the part of system design and evaluation,firstly,understand the cognitive mode and interaction mode of the blind when using web content through design research,and complete the interface and interaction design of the drawing system for the blind according to the accessibility design guidelines.Then the drawing system was evaluated.The results showed that the system designed in this study had good usability,lower task load than common sketching software,and better subjective satisfaction in graphic quality.This study applied sonification to the problem of the blind people sketching for the first time,verified the theoretical feasibility and designed a sketching system,provided a new solution for the blind people sketching,and also provided a meaningful product design for the blind people.
