With the development of Internet technology and the trend of population aging,as a rapidly expanding group of Internet users the elderly get more attention and growinto a new military force with potential commercial, but the national websites for theaged meets the psychological needs from contents rather than design. It caused theinequality of the rights of net service without considering the physiological andmental barriers result from aging problem. In this context, optimizing the design tomake it match the habit of the elderly cognition and behavior better becomesnecessarily. The accessible design which is defined by World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) is a definition and guidelines about technology andinteraction. It aims to take the accessible user experiences to the disabled. Followingthe guidelines can decrease the problems of reading information result from physicaldecline. Besides, surfing the Internet is not only a sensuous information receptionprocess but also a cognitive process. The information architecture and interactiondesign are the core of the web accessible design. The cognition includes the reception and use of information. This paper attemptsto analyze the deterioration characteristics of cognition by means of human model ofinformation processing in sensory perception, memory, thinking and mental model. Itdiscusses the elder needs of accessible design from the information architecture, interaction design and interface design as well. Finally the accessible design methodthat simplification information, contextualization information, consistency of designand diversification of navigation about improving the ability of information input, information storage and logical thinking is proposed to provide the method supports. The paper combines the design practices of50duo program in ChinaHewlett-PackardCo. By using the design method and theory the website achieves itsaim to decrease the burden of cognition and make it more accessible.
