From "Self-report" To "Self-rescue": Self-presentation Of Depression Patients In Online Community

Abstract/Summary:
As a disease,depression has been "stigmatized" in China for a long time;the media has a single image of depressed patients,mostly negative;depressed patients have been in a state of collective aphasia for a long time;and there is a certain prejudice in the public perception of depression and other mental illnesses.With the accelerating pace of work and life in society,the psychological pressure of modern people is increasing day by day,and mental health is receiving social attention.Depression,as a common psychological disorder,plagues people of different age groups.The survival of depression patients in reality is not ideal,and the high prevalence of the disease is hidden in the low consultation rate.With the advent of the Internet society,some depressed patients choose to "self-report" in the Internet community to achieve "self-help" through"self-report" in the subconscious,which is a phenomenon worthy of attention.In this paper,we selected the "self-reports" uploaded by depressed patients in the public website of "Transition" and analyzed the samples using Nvivo software to form a"story line" about the self-presentation of depressed patients in online communities.The"story line" of depressed patients’ self-representation in the online community was developed.The main body of this paper is divided into four parts.The first chapter introduces an overview of the online communities through which depressed patients"self-report";summarizes the basic characteristics of depressed patients in the communities;and explains the function of online communities in expanding the living space of depressed patients.Chapter 2 analyzes the content of depressed patients’"self-reports" in online communities from four dimensions:firstly,it analyzes how depressed patients construct their self-image in "self-reports";secondly,it analyzes how depressed patients perceive their illness in "self-reports";and secondly,it analyzes how depressed patients perceive their illness in "self-reports".First,we analyze how depressed patients construct their self image in "self-report";second,we analyze how depressed patients perceive their illness in "self-report";third,we analyze the "other" in depressed patients’ "self-report";fourth,we analyze the logic of depressed patients’self-presentation.In the third chapter,the "self-help" behaviors of depressed patients in online communities are demonstrated in three dimensions:"identity cultivation","self-rebellion",and "avoidance to integration".The third chapter argues for the"self-help" behavior of depressed patients in online communities from three dimensions:"identity development," "self-rebellion," and "avoidance to integration.Chapter 4 analyzes the constraints of depressed patients’ "self-help" through "self-reporting" from three aspects:society-family-campus,online community,and patients themselves,and points out that such online self-help behaviors of depressed patients are only This study analyzed the constraints of "self-help" through "self-reporting" by depressed patients.This study shows the reality of health communication of mental illnesses through the "self-reporting" and "self-help" of depressed patients in online communities,reveals the important role played by online communities in health communication,and reflects the multifaceted and complex relationship between patients,illnesses,media and society in the field of mental illnesses.It reflects the diverse and complex relationship between patients,diseases,media and society in the field of mental illnesses,and has certain social significance on how people can use the media form of online communities to assist in the treatment of mental illnesses and solve the social problem of the high incidence of depression.
