| On July 31,2015,the International Olympic Committee(IOC)voted that Beijing and Zhangjiakou would be awarded the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.From that moment on,Beijing became the first city in the world to host both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games." Dual Olympic City " has become a unique name card of Beijing.In order to better tell the story of Beijing’s Double Olympics,Beijing Satellite TV’s Winter Olympics Documentary Channel released a documentary series DUAL OLYMPIC CITY in May 2019.This article embarks from the narrative theories to documentary,city of double the characters as the research object,uses the literature material method,case study method and expert interview method,from the narrative perspective,narrative time,narrative space,narrative structure and narrative language these dimensions on the analysis and research,at the same time,combining with the theory of city memory to explore the narrative strategy of the documentary.Through the research,it is found that from the perspective of narrative,the creators of the character documentary DUAL OLYMPIC CITY coordinated the overall narrative from the non-focused perspective,constructed the connection between time and space,and at the same time,set up suspense through the inner focused perspective to deeply explain the inner world of the protagonist.For the character whose identity has changed,the application of the inner focusing perspective can realize the transformation of the perspective after the transformation of the same character’s identity,which can more richly show the character’s personality characteristics.In terms of narrative time,it breaks the order of linear narrative for many times,and adopts the techniques of reverse time sequence and non-time sequence to construct new time relations,so as to make the focus and theme of narrative more prominent.In the narrative space,the symbolic space narration is carried out through the series of the real space,and the rich inner feelings of the characters are expressed from the side by the shaping of the characters’ spiritual space.In terms of narrative structure,the characters and stories with different characteristics adopt single-line progressive structure,multi-line parallel structure and rambling structure respectively to ensure the smooth and reasonable narrative process.In terms of narrative language,through the composition and collocation of picture language and sound language,the documentary language is rich and full.At the same time,the construction of the memory of the city of Beijing is realized through diversified narrative subjects,the use of time-space interlapsed narrative montage,and the historical narrative image data.After the analysis and discussion of the character documentary of DUAL OLYMPIC CITY,the following problems are found:1.Limitations of narrative techniques.Restricted by the nature of media,documentaries have a strong propaganda color in the narrative process,and the use of non-focused perspectives is easy to bring subjectivity,which has a large restrictive factor.2.Defects of narrative structure.The application of multi-line parallel structure often makes the later creators abandon many important narrative contents and elements,which makes the narrative process pay attention to one and lose the other,and also makes the narrative of a single protagonist lack of deeper documentary depth.3.The narrative language is too long,which affects the narrative rhythm.Some shots in documentaries contain too little information change,leading to a slow and sluggish narrative pace.As a result,part of the narrative content will appear dull,monotonous and boring.4.The format of a few documentaries is not uniform,which affects the visual effect of the picture.In view of the existing problems,the following countermeasures and suggestions are proposed:1.It takes audiences as the center,and actively innovates narrative content and form.2.Through overall planning and arrangement,the narrative theme is more clear and prominent.3.In the future,the narrative theme and focus will be inclined to Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games,and international communication strategy will be adopted. |
