The Influence Of Parental Rearing Style On Adolescents' Tendency To Become Addicted To Online Novels: The Chain Mediation Effect Of Peer Relationships And Self-estee

With the development of the Internet,Internet fiction emerge in endlessly.For teenagers,unhealthy Internet fiction reading may lead to the tendency of Internet fiction addiction.Therefore,it is of great significance to explore the overall status and influencing factors of teenagers’ Internet fiction addiction for the development of their physical and mental health.Parents are the earliest influences on adolescents,and their parenting style is also an important factor in the process of adolescents’ socialization.In addition,the school environment is the largest ecosystem in addition to the family environment.The interaction of peer relationships in the school,which is influenced by the parenting style,may also affect the development of individual self-esteem,which in turn directly affects the social behaviors of adolescents,such as Internet addiction.Referring to the related research on Internet addiction,adolescents with low self-esteem tend to bring the characters in the fiction context to themselves when reading Internet fiction and find self-worth and satisfaction,while long-term excessive reading may lead to the tendency of Internet fiction addiction.Therefore,this study discusses the overall status of addiction tendency in Internet fiction and its relationship with parenting style,peer relationship and self-esteem.This study consists of two studies.In the first study,748 adolescents were tested to revise the Internet fiction addiction questionnaire and test its applicability in the adolescent group.In the second study,538 teenagers in Shaoxing were randomly selected to investigate their Internet fiction reading by using four scales,namely,the Internet Fiction Addiction Questionnaire,the Parenting Style Scale,the Peer Relationship Scale and the Self-esteem Scale.The results show that:(1)there are significant grade and gender differences in teenagers’ reading types and reasons for reading Internet fiction;(2)Adolescent withdrawal reaction score was the highest,interpersonal academic problems score was the lowest;(3)There are significant grade differences in the four dimensions of adolescent Internet fiction addiction and withdrawal reaction,time management,healthy rest and rest,and interpersonal academic problems.The interaction of time management dimension between gender and grade is significant.The above research results show that,in the Internet fiction reading,teenagers like the most suspenseful inference Internet fiction,the least is the romance fiction,grade differences are the fifth grade the least number of people,the eighth grade the most;Among the gender differences,suspense was equal to that of men and women,while romance was more female than male.The main reason for reading is to imagine the world,the fifth grade is the highest,the sixth grade is the lowest,and the number of girls choose fiction for this reason is more than that of boys.However,some teenagers tend to be addicted to Internet fiction in the process of reading Internet fiction.The addiction score in grade 7 and 8 of junior high school was higher than that in grade 5 and6 of primary school.In the time management dimension,girls in seventh grade scored higher than boys in fifth and sixth grade,as well as seventh grade.In the study of parental rearing on the tendency of Internet fiction addiction,the survey results show that(1)there are significant differences in the total score,withdrawal response,tolerance and interpersonal academic problems of teenagers’ Internet fiction addiction,the father’s education level and father’s occupation;(2)There is a significant correlation between adolescent parenting style,peer relationship,self-esteem and Internet fiction addiction;(3)Peer relationship and self-esteem play a chain mediating role between parenting style and Internet fiction addiction.Among them,peer relationship and self-esteem play a complete mediating role between parents’ positive parenting style and Internet fiction addiction,peer relationship plays a partial mediating role between parents’ negative parenting style and Internet fiction addiction,and self-esteem plays a partial mediating role between mothers’ negative parenting style and Internet fiction addiction.The results show that the father’s occupation and education level significantly affect teenagers’ tendency of Internet fiction addiction;The parenting style(positive/negative parents),peer relationship and self-esteem all affect the tendency of adolescents to develop Internet fiction addiction.
