Living in the Internet age, surfing the Internet has become the main way for senior high school students to relax, entertain and study.Internet has two sides. While it is convenient for high school students to live and study,it also has negative effects, such as Internet addiction. At the same time, how to make full use of Internet technology for high school students is also an important issue for educators to avoid internet addiction. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between family rearing style and Internet Addiction of senior high school students, and whether self-esteem plays an intermediary role between them.796 senior high school students in Kunming,Yunnan Province were investigated by family rearing style scale,Chinese Internet Addiction Scale and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. The results are as follows:(1)Among the investigated high school students, there were 127 Internet addicts, and the detection rate was 17.7%.There were significant differences between the Internet addiction group and the non-addiction group in the dimensions of gender, grade, whether the only child, parents’ marital status and residence.(2)There are significant differences in senior high school students’ Internet addiction in grade, whether they are the only child, parents’ marital status and place of residence. The total score of Internet Addiction of senior three students was significantly higher than that of senior one and senior two students; The only child is more prone to Internet addiction;Students whose parents’ marriage is unstable are more prone to Internet addiction; The score of Internet Addiction of students living in urban areas was significantly lower than that of students living in urban and rural areas.(3)There is a significant correlation among Internet addiction, family rearing style and self-esteem of senior high school students.(4)Self-esteem plays a mediating role in family rearing patterns, parents’ dimensions and Internet addiction. In family rearing style, the dimensions of rejection, emotional warmth, overprotection and self-esteem of father and mother can directly affect internet addiction(that is,parental rejection, parental overprotection can positively predict Internet addiction;parental emotional warmth and self-esteem can inversely predict Internet addiction),and in family rearing style, father and mother are in rejection, emotional warmth The dimension of overprotection can also indirectly affect internet addiction through self-esteem(that is,parental rejection and overprotection can indirectly and inversely predict Internet addiction through the reverse effect on self-esteem;the dimension of parental emotional warmth can indirectly and inversely predict Internet addiction through the positive effect on self-esteem).Based on the above conclusions, this study puts forward some educational suggestions:First, school and family educators should focus on the time and frequency of high school students using the Internet to prevent them from Internet addiction.Second, school and family educators should focus on the self-esteem of high school students.Schools should find out students’ negative thoughts and emotions in time, implement the mental health education course, give full play to the role of psychological counseling, and integrate the cultivation of students’ self-esteem into daily teaching.Parents should create a positive and warm family atmosphere, guide their children to establish self-confidence and improve their sense of security and belonging.Third, family educators should focus on family rearing methods.Reduce the degree of rejection and excessive protection in family rearing methods, try to create a warm family atmosphere, give children encouragement in life and study, and reduce pressure or punishment. On the one hand,it can not only improve students’ self-esteem,but also reduce the risk of Internet addiction.Fourth, school education administrators should strengthen home school cooperation with some Internet addicted students.
