High school is a critical stage in the development of self-identity,and individuals face the first node of career exploration.Gender nonconformity is a manifestation of an individual’s behavior, appearance,or identity that does not match the gender distribution at birth,as defined by social culture.Looking back at the relevant research on the career choice of high school students, few researchers have paid attention to the impact of gender bias on the career choice of high school students, although scholars have explored the relationship between gender roles and occupational types of high school students, but have not yet studied the psychological contradictions and conflicts arising from the process of high school students’ compliance with gender norms and the pursuit of self-identity.Based on the theory of gender role,self-affirmation theory and previous research, this study takes the influence mechanism of gender nonconformity on adolescent career choice as the starting point to verify the mediating effect of Felt Pressure to Conform to Gender Roles sexual pressure and the moderating effect of self-affirmation,and construct a moderated mediation model.and conducted intervention studies on Felt Pressure to Conform to Gender Roles stress among high school students. This study included three sub-studies.In the pre-research section, high school students nominate 10 occupations and score the sexualization of occupations, and the results of the obtained occupational categories are used in follow-up research materials.A total of 113 high school students participated in this time, and the results screened 10 male occupations such as firefighters,e-sports players, and skilled workers, and 10 female occupations such as nurses, preschool educators, and secretaries.Study 1 explores how high school sophomores’ gender bias predicts high school students’ career choices, and further examines under what conditions this mediating effect is stronger or weaker.A total of 1,024 high school students participated in the questionnaire. The results show that gender nonconformity gender bias can directly affect the career choice of high school students, and can also indirectly affect career choice through Felt Pressure to Conform to Gender Roles pressure, and Felt Pressure to Conform to Gender Roles pressure plays some mediating roles.Self-affirmation has a moderating effect in the mediating effect of Felt Pressure to Conform to Gender Roles sexual stress in the second half of the pathway.Based on the establishment of the mediation model, the second study reduces the gender typical pressure of high school through curriculum intervention and alleviates the psychological conflict of high school students in the process of career choice. The results showed that compared with the control group, the perception of typical sexual stress in women in the Felt Pressure to Conform to Gender Roles dimension was reduced in the intervention group, while there was no significant change in the perception of typical sexual stress in men. This study corroborates the choice of career preferences of individuals by previous gender nonconformity.Gender-skewed high school students are more likely to choose male occupations. At the theoretical level, the results show that gender nonconformity is affected by gender-typical sexual stress. The higher the level of gender-typical stress, the more likely the participants to choose their own gender-dominated occupation to comply with traditional gender norms. This process is regulated by self-affirmation,and gender typicality pressure is less at a high level of self-affirmation.At the practical level, the study combines experimental manipulation materials with course intervention forms, which can be directly used in psychological courses.Future research can further explore the factors of the source differences of gender-typical stress in high school students, and refine the relevant research on the impact of gender nonconformity and gender-typical stress on high school students’ career choice. |
