China's market reform originated in the late 80s of last century resulted in a great change on individuals'life and value, including people's awareness of gender roles. Using data of Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS) in 2006 and Multinomial Linear Regression method, the paper examined the impacts of personal attributes, family economic condition, family relations, parental education and patrilineal culture etc. on consciousness of gender roles among urban residents; besides the author inspected how the educational capital and political capital influenced individuals'consciousness of gender roles and their changes during the process of market reform.The research found that:first, education has positive effects on modernization of awareness of gender roles, especially in the area of low marketization. Second, political capital has a positive influence on the consciousness of modern gender roles, and in the areas with a high degree of market it becomes more" profitable ".
