The "character image" in the teaching material is an important carrier to present the value concept and impart knowledge.The value concept behind the character image influences the formation of students’ values and world outlook.The Chinese teaching materials of junior high school embody excellent Chinese and foreign literary works.The characters in them are good or evil,beautiful or ugly,which are very typical and are the product of national and social culture.Through the interpretation of characters in Chinese textbooks,especially foreign characters,students can broaden their horizons and cultivate their awareness of globalization.This paper,based on the two sets of junior high school Chinese textbooks of the ministry edition and the Human Education Edition,takes "the selection and compilation of foreign characters in the textbooks" as the research object,uses text interpretation method,comparison method,chart induction method,etc.,to analyze and discuss the selection and compilation of foreign characters in junior high school Chinese textbooks.The paper is divided into five parts.The first part describes the origin,status,significance and methods of this study.In the second part,the author sorts out the number and genre of selected articles,nationality,gender,occupation and social class of foreign characters in Chinese textbooks,and compares the similarities and differences between the two sets of textbooks.The third part divides the types of foreign characters and explores the value of foreign characters in the textbook.The fourth part,based on the above content,expounds the problems existing in the selection and compilation of foreign characters in junior high school Chinese textbooks.First,the national distribution of characters is not balanced;Secondly,the imbalance between the number of men and women and their social roles;Thirdly,the characters’ occupation and social class are unevenly distributed;Fourth,related to the selection of foreign characters in the genre,the human education edition is missing poetry works,part of the edition is missing poetry and drama works.In this part,the reasons for inadequate selection are expounded.The fifth part,in view of the above problems,from the compilation and teaching of the two aspects of improvement.First,to add poetry and drama genres to part of the edition,and pay attention to their educational role;Second,the writer tries to make the characters show the diversity of the country.Teachers should increase students’cultural cognition,but cannot abandon their own national culture.Thirdly,foreign women,especially female role models,should be appropriately added in the compilation.Teachers should strengthen gender education.Fourth,appropriately add foreign"little people"image,form comparative reading.I hope that through the research of this topic,the compilation and teaching of Chinese textbooks in junior high school will be of some help,so that the reform of Chinese textbooks and curriculum will be more scientific and perfect.
