Children with family difficulties face particularly prominent emotional management issues such as difficulty in identifying their own emotions, incorrect understanding of emotional connotations, improper expression of emotions, and insufficient regulation of emotional pathways, which can greatly affect the healthy growth of children with family difficulties. At the same time,it also reflects the service demand for social work to enhance its ability to recognize, understand, express, and regulate emotions. Therefore, this study is supported by the theory of symbolic interaction and adopts reading therapy to intervene in the emotional management ability of children in family difficulties. This study selected 11 children aged 5-10 with family difficulties as the research subjects, and used scale measurement and non participatory observation methods for the study.According to the theory of symbolic interaction, the process of group activity intervention is divided into four aspects: "symbol construction: identifying negative emotions","role cognition: deepening emotional understanding","role playing: expanding emotional expression methods",and "reshaping actions: improving emotional regulation ability".Finally, the pre and post test scores of the EIS emotional intelligence scale were entered into SPSS for analysis. The group members showed significant differences in the emotional intelligence scale scores before and after intervention, indicating that reading therapy from the perspective of symbolic interaction theory can significantly improve the emotional management ability of children in distress.A professional reflection was conducted on the setting of group activities and the professionalism of social workers, and it was pointed out that future research can use multiple pre and post tests to establish selection criteria for reading materials, set up control groups, increase sample size, and explore new influencing factors,in order to provide experience and reference for more practice in the future.
