Objective: The data on student physical fitness and health released in September 2021 showed that the physical fitness of college students is on the decline, and some studies found that the abnormal distribution of body composition can lead to the decline of physical fitness;High Intensity Interval Training(HIIT)has been widely used in the field of popular sports in recent years, and has the characteristics of short duration, high efficiency, and low requirement of venue. Therefore,HIIT was used as an exercise intervention tool to investigate the effect of 12 weeks of exercise on body composition and physical health of female university students in a subalpine environment, and to provide exercise options and references for female students who need to improve body composition and physical health.Research methods: The study was conducted using literature, experimental, observation, mathematical and statistical methods supplemented by logical analysis;50 female first and second year college students were randomly divided into experimental and control groups in a subalpine environment, with the experimental group exercising for 12 weeks(3 times/week,30 min/time)according to the developed HIIT program and the control group without any intervention. The physical composition and physical health of the two groups were tested before and after the experiment, and paired tests and independent tests were conducted using SPSS26.0 to compare the changes in physical composition and physical health of female university students before and after the HIIT program in a subalpine environment.Results:(1)After the 12-week experiment, changes in body composition: waist-to-hip ratio(WHR),body fat rate, and body fat amount significantly decreased(P<0.05)and basal metabolic amount significantly increased(P<0.05)in the experimental group of female college students;there were no significant changes in body mass index(BMI),total muscle mass, defatted body weight, body water, inorganic salt amount, and protein amount(P>0.05);body mass index(BMI)and defatted body weight of female college students in the control group increased significantly(P<0.05),and basal metabolic volume increased significantly(P<0.05),and the changes of the remaining indexes were not statistically significant(P>0.05).(2)After 12 weeks of experiment, the changes of physical health: the standing long jump,1min sit-up,sitting forward bend and lung capacity of female college students in the experimental group were significantly improved(P<0.05),and the time spent on 50 m and 800 m was shortened significantly(P<0.05);female college students in the control group did not show significant changes in the other indexes except for the time spent on 800 m was significantly prolonged(P<0.05)(P> 0.05).(3)The results of the independent tests of the relevant indexes in the two groups of female university students after the experiment showed that the changes in body mass index(BMI),waist-to-hip ratio(WHR),body fat percentage, fat loss and body fat mass, and the time spent on 50 m and 800 m were significantly associated with the HIIT exercise developed in the study. The study concluded that:(1)The 12-week HIIT exercise program developed by female university students in subalpine environment can effectively improve body composition, effectively reduce body fat content, optimize waist-to-hip ratio and increase basal metabolism on the basis of maintaining body fat loss and other body composition, which has positive significance for fat loss and plasticity of female university students.(2)The 12-week HIIT program for female university students in the subalpine environment can effectively improve physical function, mainly in the form of significant increase in lung capacity after exercise.(3)The overall physical quality of female university students in subalpine environment improved after 12 weeks of exercise according to the HIIT program, which was reflected in the significant improvement of standing long jump,1min sit-up,seated forward bend,50 m and 800 m after HIIT exercise.(4)The changes in body mass index(BMI),waist-to-hip ratio(WHR),body fat percentage, body fat mass and fat loss weight, and speed and endurance qualities of female college students in the subalpine environment of the study were significantly correlated with the HIIT exercise used in the study.
