Urban left-behind children are frequently neglected in academia, but their population size is large and growing gradually.Urban left-behind children have more resources and their physical needs are met compared to their rural left-behind peers, but their psychological needs are still unmet, and they are even more eager to be noticed.Urban children who have been left behind for an extended period of time are more likely to suffer from psychological and behavioral problems.Self-efficacy is a person’s assessment and conviction towards their own behavioral capacity, which affects their thoughts and actions.Childhood is a crucial time for the establishment and growth of self-efficacy,and childhood is also a crucial time for self-efficacy.Promoting the self-efficacy of urban left-behind children is crucial for their growth and development, but few intervention research has been carried out in the field of social work to improve their self-efficacy,and the majority of previous relevant studies have just focused on the definition of urban left-behind children and their developmental problems. An intervention research approach can be adopted if an existing problem is transformed into a malleable mediator model.Based on the literature review, this study presents a problem model of urban left-behind children’s self-efficacy predictors under the direction of self-efficacy theory and strengths perspective, and also suggests a feasible program model so as to improve urban left-behind children’s self-efficacy by intervening in their interpersonal skills, emotion regulation skills and learning attribution style, guiding group members to experience success, making them feel the power of role model, providing in-time encouragement and support, and creating a relaxed group atmosphere. This study utilized a non-experimental study with five urban left-behind children in community X in Tianjin, and the pre-test,post-test,and follow-up data were examined to determine the viability of the group work intervention and to evaluate its efficacy. The results showed that group work was significantly effective in improving the self-efficacy of urban left-behind children, and all five group members showed a significant increase in self-efficacy after participating in the intervention service.Based on the above findings,we propose the following recommendations:(1)to use social work methods to jointly provide self-efficacy enhancement services;(2)to coordinate multiple resources to build a systematic social work service system;(3)to strengthen the accumulation of practical experience of social workers to enhance their professionalism;(4)to design diversified group activities to stimulate the potential of urban left-behind children;(5)to pay attention to the growth of urban left-behind children and promote the construction of child-friendly communities.
