A Study On Social Support For Rural Empty Nesters In Their Old Age

As the aging of our population continues to accelerate,the issue of retirement based on this background has been receiving continuous attention from all sectors of society.Along with the continuous urbanization process,there is a serious phenomenon of empty nesting and hollowing out in rural areas,and the rural empty nesters have a strong demand for social support in their old age,facing more and more complicated social support problems.It is of positive significance to study the current situation of social support for rural empty nesters and the social support problem of old age,and to propose corresponding countermeasures to improve the social support for rural empty nesters and to improve their level of old age security and happiness of life,so as to enhance people’s well-being and promote the high-quality development of rural revitalization.This paper takes Changfa Village in Changchun City,Jilin Province as the research site,takes social support theory,welfare pluralism theory and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory as the theoretical basis,studies the current situation of social support for the elderly empty nesters in Changfa Village from two aspects:informal support and formal support,summarizes the social support problems of the elderly empty nesters in Changfa Village,then summarizes the causes of the social support problems of the elderly empty nesters in Changfa Village in terms of material economic support,life care support,spiritual comfort support and medical security support,and finally proposes countermeasures to improve the social support for the elderly empty nesters in rural areas.The study found that the problems of social support for the elderly empty nesters in Changfa Village are reflected in the following:material economic support has the problem of a single income channel and limited supply,life care support has the problem of weak support capacity and limited support,spiritual comfort support has the problem of insufficient effective support and weak support,and medical security support has the problem of high cost of medical treatment and unsound medical resource system.The causes of their social support problems are:the insufficient policy strength of the new rural social pension insurance system in terms of material and economic support,the weakening function of family pension in terms of life care support,the trend of "alienation of human feelings" in terms of spiritual comfort support,and the imperfect system in terms of medical security support.The author proposes countermeasures to improve social support for rural empty nesters in terms of informal support and formal support,and in terms of informal support,strengthen the spiritual comfort of children and neighborhood mutual support.This is reflected in:first,strengthening the spiritual support of children to the elderly;second,carrying out publicity related to mutual help of the elderly in rural communities;third,setting up organizations of mutual help of the elderly in the neighborhood such as senior citizen associations.In terms of formal support,improve the construction of the rural pension security system and the medical security system.This is reflected in:first,improving the construction of the new rural social pension insurance system;second,strengthening the awareness cultivation of village committee cadres in serving the elderly on the pension security system;third,actively guiding the implementation of rural community pension services and effectively strengthening the pivotal role of pension institutions;and fourth,improving the level of rural primary medical services.The social support problem of rural empty nesters is closely related to the harmonious development of society.Through the study of social support for the elderly in Changfa village,the author provides suggestions for the construction of a social support system for the elderly in rural areas,so as to build a perfect social support system for the elderly in rural areas as early as possible.
