| The aging of our population is becoming more and more serious, and hospice care for the elderly is receiving more and more attention as we enter an aging society. The hospice services in hospitals are mainly for elderly patients with advanced cancer, but the home hospice services provided by hospitals do not receive relevant support and assistance, and their services lack consistency and relevance, thus affecting the quality of life of elderly cancer patients at the end of their lives,to the extent that it is difficult to provide services with high adaptability at the physical, psychological and social support levels. In view of the above,we attempt to address these issues through a casework approach in social work,in order to better meet the needs of the elderly at the end of cancer for home hospice care and to make up for the lack of hospital hospice care.Based on the current situation of hospice care services in China, the author applied the case social work method to study the home hospice care for elderly terminal cancer patients.Among the many terminal cancer patients, the author selected representative and typical elderly people as the study subjects, trying to relieve the patients’ physical pain, reduce their psychological pressure, overcome their fear of death, satisfy their unfulfilled wishes, improve the quality of life at the end of life, and help their families to better accept their new life.In the study, the author used literature research method, unstructured interview method and participant observation method to obtain the results. In the application of casework in this study, the process of needs assessment of the caseworker, development of a service plan, implementation of the service plan, evaluation of the service results, and reflection and summary of the service plan were followed. The results indicate that casework is effective in the application of hospice services for the elderly in home hospice, playing a very important role in all aspects of physical pain relief, psychological comfort and solace, and ultimately aftercare, especially the psychological support aspect of hospice care.In this service,it is clear that a targeted casework approach can effectively fill the gap in end-of-life care for elderly cancer patients in hospitals, and is a good way to make up for the lack of hospital services and home hospice care.We hope that this casework approach to home hospice can be widely promoted and applied to hospice care for elderly patients with advanced cancer. |
