The self-care ability of preschool children primarily refers to their capacity to independently manage daily activities,including the development of self-awareness and the improvement of daily self-care skills,such as mastering self-care techniques,enhancing manual dexterity,perceiving their own growth,establishing a sense of independence,fostering good habits,and accumulating self-care experience.Kindergarten year 2 is a transitional stage in preschool education and early childhood is also an important period for children to develop their basic abilities for independent survival in society.Cultivating the self-care ability of kindergarten year 2children not only promotes their physical and mental development but also plays a crucial role in the development of various kindergarten activities and the cultivation of children’s awareness of rules and routines.This article utilizes observation and interview methods to comprehend the current situation of59 kindergarten year 2 self-care ability in terms of five dimensions: eating,washing,toileting,napping,and dressing.It analyzes the problems and causes of the current kindergarten year 2self-care ability,and proposes educational suggestions to improve the problems in self-care ability.Research findings:There are several problems with the self-care ability of kindergarten year2 in Alar City.Firstly,lack of concentration during meals;serious picky eating behavior;not proficient in using chopsticks.Secondly,weak awareness of washing hands and faces;disordered toilet order;not mastering the correct hand washing methods.Thirdly,lack of awareness of rules in toileting;poor self-care ability after defecation.Fourthly,difficulty in falling asleep independently and quietly;making a bed is not in good condition.Fifthly,challenges in dressing and putting on socks;difficulty in mastering fine motor skills such as buttoning and tying shoelaces.The above problems are mainly attributed to four aspects: children’s factors(age and gender),teacher’s factors(biased educational concepts,poor curriculum design and implementation),kindergarten’s factors(weak support for kindergarten 2 children’s self-care ability),and parents’ factors(lack of correct child-rearing and educational concepts,lack of scientific family education methods,and lack of close cooperation between home and kindergarten).This study proposes the following educational recommendations for addressing the problems in the self-care ability of kindergarten 2 children: Firstly,focusing on the children and respecting their subjectivity.Secondly,teachers should elevate their educational literacy,value the diversity of educational methods.Thirdly,kindergartens should establish an educational platform and prioritize leading education.Fourthly,parents should shift their educational concepts and value the scientific nature of child-rearing methods.Fifthly,enhancing cooperation between home and kindergarten to promote the improvement of children’s self-care ability.
