Depression,as a typical negative emotional state,is one of the most common mental health problems in adolescence. To promote the healthy development of adolescents and alleviate their depression has become an urgent problem to be solved. The interpersonal relationship model of adolescent depression indicates that interpersonal dysfunction increases the risk of adolescent depression.Whether peer victimization,as a kind of interpersonal dysfunction, has an impact on junior middle school students’ depression. In order to answer this question, this study explored the relationship between peer victimization and depression and its mechanism.By constructing a moderated mediation model, this study provided a basis for the intervention of depression in junior middle school students, and laid a foundation for further mental health education in the future.A total of 1188 junior middle school students in Wuzhi County,Jiaozuo City,Henan Province were selected by convenient sampling method.A questionnaire survey was conducted on junior middle school students using the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scales,Peer Victimization Scale,Ruminant Response Scale and Children’s Hope Scale. Finally,SPSS 26.0 software and Process 3.4 plug-in were used to analyze and Process the data, and the following results were obtained:(1)The detection rate of depression in junior middle school students was 44.59%.There were significant differences in gender, grade and origin of students.Specifically, girls’ depression is higher than boys’;The depressive mood of the second day is higher than the first and third day;Rural students have higher depression than urban students.(2)Peer victimization and different types of peer victimization can significantly positively predict junior middle school students’ depression. That is,the more peer abuse junior middle school students suffer, the more serious their depression.(3)Rumination partially mediated the relationship between peer victimization, different types of peer victimization and depression. In other words, the more peer victimization junior middle school students suffer, the more likely it is to lead to a higher level of rumination, which leads to depression.(4)Hope moderated the relationship between peer victimization and rumination, rumination and depression.Specifically, the higher the hope, the less the influence of peer victimization on rumination; The higher the sense of hope is,the less the influence of rumination on depression.Based on the above research results and the actual situation, the following educational countermeasures are proposed to improve the mental health level of junior middle school students and prevent the occurrence of depression:First, pay attention to the depression of junior middle school students;Second, strengthen the attention to the high risk group of peer victimization of junior middle school students;Third, change the ruminant thinking of students, reduce the occurrence of depression;Fourth, improve the junior middle school students hope level, protect students from depression.
