Preventing suicide has become a global public health issue, attracting widespread attention from different researchers. In recent years, suicide incidents among adolescents in China have occurred frequently, causing enormous trauma and losses to individuals, families, and society.Due to factors such as cultural level, economic development, educational resources, and parental attention, the risk of suicide among rural adolescents is even more severe.Suicidal ideation is when an individual appears to harm themselves or lose the will to live, but does not result in substantive action. It is a sensitive factor that triggers suicidal behavior, and is also an important evaluation indicator for preventing and intervening suicide. It is necessary to pay attention to and intervene in the suicidal ideation of rural adolescents, and prevent the further transformation of suicidal ideation into suicidal behavior.Parental neglect is a possible risk factor in the process of parents raising children. If adolescents and children suffer long-term parental neglect and remain immersed in ruminating thinking, they may experience a sense of redundancy and frustration, leading to suicidal ideation and behavior. With the rise of positive psychology, the sense of hope as a protective factor has gradually received attention in suicide prevention. As an important psychological resource,a sense of hope can help individuals effectively resist suicidal ideation. In summary, this study takes rural junior high school students as the research object, and examines the relationship between parental neglect, ruminating thinking, sense of hope, and suicidal ideation based on theories such as positive psychology, suicide interpersonal theory, stress susceptibility model, and parental rejection. On this basis, intervention is conducted, hoping to provide reference for the prevention and intervention of suicidal ideation among rural junior high school students. This study consists of two parts. The first part is to investigate 888 rural junior high school students from a rural middle school in Xiamen City,Fujian Province, using the Parental Neglect Scale,Ruminating Thinking Scale,Sense of Hope Scale, and Adolescent Suicide Intention Scale to investigate the differences among the four variables in whether they are only children, gender, and grade To explore the impact of parental neglect on suicidal ideation and the chain mediating role of rumination and hope in the relationship between parental neglect and suicidal ideation; The second part:Based on the first study,24 rural junior high school students with suicidal ideation and meeting the intervention criteria were selected and divided into experimental and control groups, each with 12 students. The experimental group received 8 consecutive group psychological counseling interventions, while the control group did not receive any intervention. Before and after the group assisted intervention, the levels of rumination, hope, and suicidal ideation in the experimental and control groups were measured, and the effect of the group assisted intervention was evaluated. The specific results are as follows:(1)The overall level of suicide ideation and parental neglect among rural junior high school students is medium to low,the level of sense of hope is medium to high, and the level of ruminant thinking is medium to high.(2)There are significant gender differences in suicidal ideation and sense of hope, while there are no significant gender differences in parental neglect and rumination; There were no significant differences in parental neglect, ruminating thinking, suicidal ideation, and sense of hope in grade and whether they were only children.(3)There is a correlation between parental neglect, ruminating thinking, feelings of hope, and suicidal ideation.(4)Hope plays a mediating role between parental neglect and suicidal ideation among rural junior high school students.(5)Ruminant thinking plays a mediating role between parental neglect and suicidal ideation among rural junior high school students.(6)Ruminant thinking and sense of hope play a chain mediating role between parental neglect and suicidal ideation among rural junior high school students, namely, there is a path of "parental neglect ruminant thinking sense of hope suicidal ideation".(7)Group psychological counseling with the theme of ruminating thinking can effectively reduce the level of ruminating thinking among rural junior high school students and alleviate their suicide ideation level.
