With the high-quality development of vocational education and the innovative transformation of tourism development models in China,the importance of cultivating innovative talents in the tourism industry is becoming increasingly prominent.The course "Study Travel Route Design" in vocational school is a newly added course in the field of tourism,which requires high innovative abilities in students’ thinking and practice.Project based teaching can not only help students increase their interest in learning,gain professional knowledge,strengthen professional skills,but also effectively cultivate students’ innovation ability.It has strong practicality and applicability in the teaching of this course.According to literature review,research on students’ innovation ability is relatively insufficient in the field of tourism secondary vocational education,and project-based teaching application research oriented towards innovation ability cultivation is even rarer.Therefore,the research question of this article lies in how to design project teaching for the course of "Study Travel Route Design" to improve the innovation ability of vocational tourism students.The main research context of this article is as follows: Firstly,define the core concepts,and conduct literature review and commentary on the current research status in China;Secondly,construct a structural model of innovation ability for vocational tourism students,and use questionnaire surveys and interviews to understand the current situation of teaching and students’ innovation ability in the course of "Study Travel Route Design" in vocational schools;Thirdly,project teaching design should be carried out for the course of "Study Travel Route Design" in vocational schools,clarifying the various innovative abilities that should be cultivated during the project teaching process;Fourthly,implement the specific plan of the project teaching design,and test the effectiveness of cultivating students’ innovation ability after the completion of the project teaching.The research focus of this article is on the project teaching design for cultivating students’ innovative ability.The teaching activities of the "Guangdong Province Study Travel Characteristic Route Design" project were specifically carried out from six stages: project preparation,project planning,project implementation,project presentation,project evaluation,and project summary.Based on the effectiveness verification of the teaching implementation of this project,the following practical conclusions can be drawn: firstly,a questionnaire survey method was used to test the innovation ability of vocational tourism major students before and after,and it was found that the innovation generation ability,innovation promotion ability,and innovation realization ability have all been significantly improved;Secondly,using the method of physical analysis,it is shown that the scores and evaluations of students’ improved project works are higher than before,and the content of the improved works can better reflect innovation and highlights;Thirdly,using group interviews,it was found that each link of project teaching can basically achieve the expected goal of cultivating the corresponding main innovative ability.Overall,it can be seen that the project teaching design of this "Study Travel Route Design" course can effectively cultivate the innovative ability of vocational tourism students.Overall,this study is a beneficial project-based teaching attempt based on the requirements of vocational education teaching reform.It not only broadens the application scope of project-based teaching in cultivating the abilities of vocational tourism students,but also provides ideas for integrating student innovation ability cultivation into vocational tourism curriculum teaching.
