As is well known, family education methods can have a significant impact on the lives and learning of adolescents, and parental psychological control,as a negative parenting behavior, can have a negative impact on children’s growth. In the early stages of elementary school, changes in learning and life make students face various adaptation problems.Social adaptation is the process in which individuals constantly interact with the environment,by changing themselves or adjusting the environment,to achieve friendly coexistence with the surrounding environment and maintain a dynamic balance. When middle school students are unable to adapt to the environment, that is,they are unable to adjust their behavior habits according to changes in the environment, they will experience negative social adaptation behaviors such as withdrawal, social alienation, and self disturbance. After literature review and research,it has been found that parental psychological control may lead to negative behaviors in children, such as aggressive behavior. Therefore, exploring the relationship between parental psychological control and adverse social adaptation has both practical and theoretical foundations. This study focuses on the current situation of parental psychological control and social adaptation of junior high school students and their relationship with each other. It also discusses and studies the chain mediation effects of self-esteem and self-control.The study adopts literature research and questionnaire survey methods. The Parental Psychological Control Scale,Adolescent Social Adaptation Status Assessment Questionnaire,Self-Control Scale and Self-Esteem Scale were used to measure 611 firstand second-year junior high school students from a middle school in Tangshan City,Hebei Province. The following conclusions were drawn through statistical methods such as analysis of variance and regression analysis:1.Parents’ psychological control can positively affect junior high school students’ bad social adaptation behavior.2.There is a partial mediating effect of self-esteem between parental psychological control and poor social adaptation behavior among middle school students, with a partial mediating effect accounting for 75%.3.Self control has a partial mediating effect between parental psychological control and poor social adaptation behavior among middle school students, with a proportion of8%.4.The mediating variables of self-esteem and self-control have a chain mediating effect between parental psychological control and poor social adaptation behavior among middle school students. After analyzing the research results, this study provides targeted suggestions and strategies from four aspects: reducing the frequency of psychological control language use, improving the self-esteem level of middle school students through family school cooperation, enhancing their self-control ability, and improving their adaptation to social alienation through school education.
