| Emotion expression competence is an important part of emotional competence and plays an effective role in promoting the development of children’s physical and mental health, learning motivation, and interpersonal relationships.Documents such as the Kindergarten Education Guideline(for Trial Implementation),the Guidelines for Learning and Development of Children Aged 3-6,and the Guidelines for Assessing the Quality of Kindergarten Care and Education have put forward clear requirements for kindergartens to carry out emotion education, providing new ideas and directions for promoting the development of young children’s emotion expression competence.Through reviewing the literature, existing studies have mainly used emotion-themed picture books,emotion-themed music, art appreciation, and painting therapy to develop young children’s emotion expression competence, while there are fewer studies on creative drama to enhance young children’s emotion expression competence. This study attempts to explore the methods and effectiveness of enhancing young children’s emotion expression competence in creative drama activities by using the action research method as the main line.In this study,30 middle school children from kindergarten B in Yuzhong District,Chongqing, were used as subjects, and three teachers from this class formed a research community to explore the methodological path of creative drama to enhance the emotion expression competence of young children in the action research process of practice, reflection, adjustment, and practice again. In the first stage, the program design of creative drama was carried out in four aspects: goal structure, content selection, program implementation, and assessment methods, based on the theory of emotional intelligence, the current situation of the subjects’ emotion expression competence, and the theory of drama education. After the pre-test,the subjects’ toddlers as a whole tend to inhibit expressing their emotions and have poor ability to express their emotions appropriately, and the percentage of toddlers whose emotion expression competence scores are at the critical value ranges from 6.67% to 16.67%.Based on this, this study conducted two rounds of action research on creative drama using picture books as a carrier of drama materials to enhance toddlers’ emotion expression competence. Finally, the overall development of the emotion expression competence of the subject toddlers was examined. After two rounds of action research, the following findings were made:1.The results of the paired-sample t-test of the questionnaire showed that the post-test scores of the subject children on the dimensions of emotional expressiveness and emotional regulation were significantly different from the pre-test scores(p<.001),with the post-test scores of the dimensions of willingness to express and emotional regulation being higher than the pre-test scores, indicating that creative drama has a significant contribution to the development of emotion expression competence in young children.2.The results of the qualitative analysis showed that children’s willingness to actively express their emotions increased,as evidenced by the higher frequency and wider range of objects for expressing emotions;their ability to appropriately express emotions increased,as evidenced by more diverse ways of expressing emotions, more specific and accurate language for expressing emotions, and more appropriate ways of expressing negative emotions.According to constructivist theory, the comprehensive and open nature of creative drama makes it a kind of integrated communication of experience, and children can actively construct their own cognitive structure of emotion expression competence through the cognitive experience and emotional experience gained in creative drama.According to Bandura’s social learning theory, the ability to express emotions is influenced by a combination of individual cognitive, behavioral and external environment factors, and children improve their ability to express emotions through observational learning. In summary, the author believes that creative drama can effectively promote the improvement of young children’s emotion expression competence, and is another important teaching activity to achieve the development of young children’s emotion expression competence.Kindergartens, teachers and parents can use creative drama to enhance the emotion expression competence of young children from the following four aspects:1.Curriculum foundation: actively promote the organic integration of creative drama with kindergarten curriculum.2.Environmental support: give full play to the implicit role of the environment in the development of emotion expression competence.3.Professional leadership: train and improve the emotional education ability of kindergarten teachers in multiple ways.4.Home and family co-education: collaborate to build a long-term mechanism for the improvement of young children’s emotion expression competence. |
