Case Work Interventions For The Spiritual Comfort Of The Elderly Living Alone In Rural Areas

With the development of the economy,a large number of young and middle-aged people in China’s rural areas have chosen to go out to work,leaving the elderly,children and other disadvantaged groups living in rural areas,and the elderly living alone in rural areas are a special group among them.In the face of the elderly living alone in rural areas,people often focus on their material needs and neglect their spiritual needs.As this group of elderly people live alone for a long time without the company of their families and lack of communication partners,the problem of spiritual comfort deserves our attention.This paper focuses on the study of the spiritual comfort of the elderly living alone in rural areas.It is guided by social support theory and dominant perspective theory,combined with reminiscence therapy,and uses a case work approach to study the spiritual comfort of the elderly living alone in rural areas,using semi-structured interviews and observation methods to collect data.A survey was conducted in village X and interviews were conducted with 21 elderly people living alone in village X to further understand the current situation and spiritual needs of the elderly living alone in rural areas.After nine interventions,the client was helped to channel his negative emotions,alleviate his loneliness,enrich his uninteresting life,and meet his spiritual needs so that he can live a peaceful life.The study found that the casework approach is effective in addressing the needs of the elderly living alone in rural areas,and that reminiscence therapy is an effective way to meet the needs of the elderly living alone in rural areas,while the social support theory and the strengths perspective theory are useful in guiding services for the elderly living alone in rural areas.
