As one of the most prevalent and deadly types of diseases in China in recent years, cancer has been given more and more attention by all sectors of society. With the continuous development and advancement of science and technology, the treatment of cancer has been well documented, cancer has been identified as a chronic disease, and various advanced treatments have been applied to save the lives of many cancer patients. However, with the prolonged and tedious treatment process, cancer not only destroys the physical and mental health of cancer patients, but also places a heavy burden on their caregivers to a certain extent, affecting their psychological well-being.At present, many scholars and experts in China have focused more on the emotional and psychological stress of cancer patients during their illness and treatment,as well as on caregiving techniques during treatment and recovery, but have neglected the fact that many carers of cancer patients are also in a state of anxiety and depression during the long-term care of cancer patients. In China, the caregivers of cancer patients are usually the immediate family members of the patient, such as children, siblings,or loved ones.Carers of cancer patients are often physically and mentally exhausted as they have to bear the burden of caring for the patient and the financial pressure of treatment costs, but they are often not given the attention and support of society due to the lack of social concern. In the long run,the negative emotions of the carers of cancer patients may deepen, and in serious cases, may even lead to psychological and mental illness.Based on this, this study was conducted on the negative emotions of cancer patient carers, using the Positive Negative Affect Scale(PANAS)to measure the emotions of cancer patient carers in the Thoracic Medicine Department of Wuhan H Cancer Hospital in Hubei Province. The results of the study showed that positive thinking therapy was effective in alleviating the negative emotions of carers of cancer patients.Through an in-depth understanding and examination of the carers of patients in the Thoracic Medicine Department of the H Cancer Hospital, the medical social workers proposed to develop six group activities to provide services for carers of cancer patients,to reduce the stress of carers of cancer patients through positive thinking therapy,to relieve the negative emotions of carers of cancer patients,to help carers of cancer patients learn self-regulation and self-compassion methods,to help them learn professional nursing skills and medical knowledge, and to expand their interpersonal skills. It also helps them to learn professional caregiving skills and medical knowledge, expand their interpersonal network and provide professional support for cancer carers. In addition,at the end of this study, the author summarises and reflects on this study from the perspective of the social work profession, and makes some suggestions to address the shortcomings of the current medical social work,in the hope that it can provide valuable experience for other researchers to study cancer patient carers in the future and broaden the research field of social work.In addition, the author hopes that this study will help improve the negative emotions of cancer patient carers and promote the physical and mental health of cancer patient carers,so as to provide better care for cancer patients and promote the implementation of the Healthy China Initiative.
